The Web Standards Project was introduced in 2003 to create standards for the
university websites. The project encompassed a design that incorporated a common
look and feel while allowing individuality. Common, persistent, expanding
navigation, file naming conventions, added functionality, user centric content
are all a part of the Web Standards Initiative.
Standards - Look and Feel
- Standard Style, Font style, size, color is determined by style sheet.
- Standard Layout - Several document template page structures
- Standard site structure
- Standard location of information
Navigation
- Persistent (global navigation University level),
- Consistent (navigation
remains within current site)
- All files show p in the navigation and are organized within folders
Additional Functionality
- There are no hidden files on the Web Standards web site.
- If content Should not be viewed except for certain
times of the year, Time Sensitive Web Tag are used.
- Content is displayed to appropriate groups using Web Account tags
Web Standards Process
- Wish List Created by the Client to bring to light any and all possibilities that
would enhance the user experience and streamline office processes.
- Web Services Document Created by the Client to explain any and all services
provided by your office and to whom these services are provided.
- Requirements Document Provided by the Client to document absolute must-haves on
their web site. This document is reviewed by UNIT, any questions that UNIT has
will be responded to by the Client, and ultimately, a Scope Document is built.
- Scope Document Built by UNIT to keep your web site project expectations at an
agreed upon level, on track, and on time.
