Villanova University Alumni Association Announces William Donnell ’77 VSB as 2017 Recipient of the Loyalty Award

The Villanova University Alumni Association (VUAA) has awarded the 2017 Loyalty Award to William Donnell ’77 VSB, Senior Vice President, Private Banking & Investment Group at Bank of America Merrill Lynch. Presented during Homecoming Weekend, the award recognizes an alumnus/a for distinguished service to the University and to their community.

Donnell is an active volunteer leader at Villanova and has established valuable connections between students and alumni. At Bank of America Merrill Lynch (BofAML), Donnell engages more than 400 Villanova alumni and parent employees at an annual networking event, which has helped drive support for the University and current students. The Villanova BofAML group maintains an internship, recruiting and mentoring program to help students and alumni launch careers at BofAML and hosts an “Introduction to Wall Street” program to expose sophomores to career opportunities in the financial sector.

Since 1984, Donnell has volunteered with the Villanova University Financial Club (VUFC), including roles as Treasurer, President and now a Board Member. Through his support and leadership, VUFC has established successful initiatives including an internship program, mentorship program and “Working on Wall Street” sessions, among other professional development opportunities.

A member of Delta Tau Delta (DTD), Donnell helped to organize the fraternity’s alumni chapter, which has grown to 650 alumni. He continues to coordinate activities and communications to help the brothers stay connected and support new graduates in their job search.

Through his involvement as a member of the Campaign Executive Committee for the University’s comprehensive capital campaign, For the Greater Great: The Villanova Campaign to Ignite Change, Donnell has helped inspire record levels of support from alumni, parents and friends.

Previously, Donnell has been recognized with the Joseph Walters Special Recognition Award and the 2010 Rev. Joseph C. Bartley, O.S.A. Alumni Medallion, which is presented by the Villanova School of Business to outstanding alumni with a distinguished career and extraordinary service to Villanova University.

In his professional career, Donnell has been a member of the Circle of Excellence at Bank of America Merrill Lynch and is a two-time recipient of the David Brady Award for client service.

Bill resides in Scarsdale, NY, with his wife Gloria. His children include Jill Donnell Shinnefield ’03, Billy Donnell ’06 and Brian Donnell ’09. The Donnells also have three young granddaughters, who they hope will be future Wildcats!
