Call for proposals - The Center for Undergraduate Research & Fellowships announces the 2017 call for proposals for the Villanova Undergraduate Research Fellows (VURF) Program. Undergraduates may apply for funding to undertake a scholarly research project with a Faculty Sponsor. Research projects are conducted during the summer and students funded by the program will receive a stipend of $3,500 for their summer projects. The application deadline is March 1.
For many years now, the Department of Chemistry has been able to support a number of students with Summer Research Fellowships. Funding for the fellowships usually comes from the generous contributions from local industries and from faculty research grants, with the University providing substantial awards of room and board. The result is a superior research experience for students and faculty alike!
It is possible to obtain credit for industrial chemistry experience through the internship program. Juniors and seniors with a GPA of 3.0 can apply for the program through the internship office (610-519-4661). The internship can either be part-time or full-time. International studies can also be achieved through Villanova University or with one of many schools with whom we have special arrangements (see page 10 of the University Catalog). Students need to apply in their sophomore or junior year and have at least a GPA of 2.75. Students can also go to summer school in a foreign country.
The Summer Research fellowship will provide a stipend for doing research with a Villanova Chemistry faculty member. Room and board will be included if desired. Details regarding housing will be communicated when they become available.
If you are a Chemistry major in good standing, you should first decide on an area of interest (Analytical Chemistry, Biochemistry, Inorganic Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, or Physical Chemistry). Next, you should interview the faculty in that area to find a research mentor. Next, you must complete an application. Your research mentor can help you with the statement of proposed research.
Applications are normally due in the Spring of each year. Information each year will be posted under the News and Events page as it becomes available.
information about external research opportunities are regularly posted on the Department of Chemistry Facebook page.
