Apple MacBook Pro Encryption

Apple Encryption Logo

As part of Villanova's IT Security and Information Protection Strategy, the University has invested in and maintained, a ‘layered’ security approach that now includes data protection. Data Protection (Encryption) is the process of safeguarding important information on devices from theft and/or data loss.

All Villanova University issued Apple MacBook Pros are now required to be encrypted.

Choose one of the options below to get started on backing up your MacBook Pro before scheduling your appointment to be encrypted.

I DO NOT have a Time Machine Backup

All employees will have to perform a Time Machine Backup prior to their appointment to be encrypted. You will need an external hard drive to perform this process.

CLAS IT recommends the Western Digital Elements USB 3.0 external hard drive. Click Here to purchase form B&H Photo

Please note that you may use another type of external hard drive. We are only making a cost effective suggestion in the event that you do not already own an external hard drive with sufficient storage capacity.

Once you have your hard drive, plug it into your MacBook Pro and follow the Apple Time Machine Backup instructions provided in the link below.
