The Office of Graduate Studies, which coordinates and manages the application process, has detailed information on general application requirements and the application process.

    • Unofficial transcripts are accepted in order to receive an admission decision
    • If accepted to the program, official transcripts of college work (at schools where 9+ credits were completed) must be sent directly from the school's Registrar's Office to the Office of Graduate Studies at Villanova
    • Applicants in their last year ofundergraduate study who have not yet completed their bachelor's degree should provide a transcript of all courses completed at the time of application, and submit an official transcript when the undergraduate degree is completed

  3. Statement of Goals: Explain your interest in the field of human resources, as well as your interest in the program offered at Villanova University. You may discuss how a certificate or master's degree in HRD would further your career goals. This statement is usually between 1-2 pages in length.
  4. Letters of Recommendation (3): Letters of recommendation should be from individuals who have evidence of either your academic or work capabilities, including faculty or employer supervisors.
  5. Current Resume: One year or more of relevant HR experience will be considered in order to waive the Intro to Human Resources in the Business World prerequisite course.
  6. Academic Writing Sample: An academically based research paper from undergraduate or graduate education may waive the Critical Evaluation and Research Writing prerequisite course if the writing sample meets the specific criteria (APA format preferred). 
  7. Applicants who do not have a 3.0 or higher undergraduate GPA must submit evidence of their ability to handle graduate-level work, such as submitting results from the GRE or GMAT exams, prior graduate studies, relevant certifications (ie: SHRM-CP or PHR), etc. If you have questions about what may be submitted in lieau of a 3.0 undergraduate GPA, please contact the HRD office directly.

Graduate Assistantships

While the GRE is not a requirement for students applying to the MS in HRD program, students who are applying for a graduate assistantship must sit for the GRE exam. Results of the exam must be received by Villanova University by the application deadline of March 1st. See below for further information about these assistantships.

We offer several graduate assistantship scholarships through the HRD program. These assistantships require 20 hours of work for the HRD program per week, and in exchange graduate assistants receive full tuition remission as well as a yearly stipend. Graduate assistants are ambassadors of the HRD program and work with the office on research projects, program initiatives, and events. Assistantships begin in the Fall semester each year.

If you are interested in applying for a graduate assistantship, you must submit your application by March 1st. Candidates will be contacted for interviews.

To apply to be a graduate assistant, you must submit GRE exam scores and the Application for Graduate Assistantship/Fellowship. Please submit this application to: gradhrdoffice@villanova.edu by March 1st. GRE exam results must be sent directly to: Villanova University (school code: 2959).

International Student Applicants

International student applicants must submit the following information and documentation. Please visit the Graduate Studies webpage for details on these requirements.

  • Proof of English language proficiency (TOEFL, IELTS)
  • Credential evaluation of undergraduate degree
  • Official transcript(s) from undergraduate/graduate institutions

Admission Information

Applicants are admitted wholly on the basis of individual merit. Villanova University does not discriminate against anyone seeking admission on the basis of their race, color, national or ethnic origin, religion, or sex. Applicants must have earned a bachelor's degree by the time they plan to enter a graduate degree or certificate program, with a minimum  undergraduate grade point average of at least 3.0 (or, the equivalent, in the case of educational  institutions located outside the US). The undergraduate institution, if in the US, must be accredited by one of the regional accrediting agencies.
