Roles

What we are looking for in a perspective Student Facilitator:

  • Understanding of and commitment to the integration of service academics and community.
  • Adequate knowledge of the program.
  • Leadership: This student will be a positive role model for sophomores in the program will be supportive of fellow team members and has a realistic view of their own strengths and weaknesses.
  • Commitment to SLC: This student believes that SLC can be an important part of the lives of sophomores.
  • Ability to manage the time commitment.
  •  Recommendation from facilitator indicates a positive role in fourth hour.

Responsibilities

  •  Facilitator Co-Chair
    • Facilitator Meetings (approx.3/semester)
    • Prepare agenda and compose minutes for each meeting
    • training and eduction
    • Oversee CAP mentorship (Spring Semester)
    • Present feedback from 4th Hour Evaluations and Instructors
    • Present student facilitator feedback at co-chair meetings
    • Collect student facilitator schedules for Spring 4th hours (Fall semester)

 

  •  Communication/SCOOP
    • Weekly newsletter
    • Community events
    • Outside lectures
    • Calendar
    • updates from  4th Hour Council
    • Advertise service sign ups, CAP meeting, etc

     

  • Special Events
    • Take attendance at all community events
    • New Sophomore Orientation (Fall Semester)
    • Partnership Dinner(Fall Semester)
    • Celebration Dinner (Spring Sememster)
    • Partnership Day (Spring Semester)
    • Welcome Day/Freshman BBQ (Spring Semester)

 

4th Hour Council

  •  Hold weekly meeting (sophomore representatives from each 4th Hour)
  • Create agenda and circulate meeting minutes to other co-chairs
  • Recruit new leadership through 4th Hour
  • Share and generate information with and from  4th hours
  • Organize community events/ decorate the bulletin board
  • Assist with partnership Dinner (Fall Semester) and Partnership Day (Spring Semester)
  • Solicit feedback from sophomores

SLC Leadership Co-Chair

Roles

Co-Chairs are junior or senior SLC alums. Co-chairs assist in the orchestration of all SLC community events, committees, orientations, and training session. They are a link of communication between the SLC office and SLC community. All co-chairs must participate in a weekly meeting (approx. 2 hours), service (3 hours), and head or co-head a sub-committee.

What we are looking for in a perspective Co-Chair:

  • All aspects stated in the perspective student facilitator section
  • Organization and leadership skills to plan programs for the community
  • A passion for SLC
  • Ability to be a positive advocate for the community

Responsibilities

  • Service Co-Chair
    • Service attendance, organize zccountability procedures for students
    • Driver Training Meeting
    • Service Orientaion (Fall semester)
    • CAP Orientation (Spring semester)
    • Create service reflection activities for van time
    • Work with secretary to orchestrate service sign ups each semester

SLC ORIENTATION – Friday August 21 – Sunday August 23

Move in for Facilitators begins Thursday evening; if you wish to move in before Thursday please contact Residence life to schedule early arrival.  Combinations or keys will be picked up in the Office of Service Learning on Thursday.

 

·         Thursday August 27: 12:00 pm –  4:30 pm Farley Conference Room Basement

Preparation for first fourth hour, Community Building, expectations of facilitators, review calendar and syllabus, preparation for sophomore orientation

·         Saturday August 22 1:00 pm – 7:00 pm Orientation for new community, Poverty Simulation

·         Sunday August 23 9:00 am – 1:00 pm Orientation for new community, Low ropes course, Service orientation; partner liaisons and/or service site veterans will meet with the students who are serving at their school or agency

 

Thursday, August 27 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm Leadership Development Meeting

 

Monday, November 9 — Partnership Dinner 6:00 pm – 8:30 pm Villanova Room: 

We invite our community partners to “our house” for dinner.  We share a meal in which you will be seated with representatives from the organization with whom you serve.  After dinner there is a panel discussion in which representatives respond to questions about their work, their constituents and the role of a volunteer.

 

Additional Leadership Development Meeting Dates & Times Forthcoming

Thursday  January 14 6:00 pm – 7:30 pm OR 8:30 pm – 10:00 pm CAP meeting/Service Reorientation

Your experience with CAP projects and service are invaluable at these meetings.  Please encourage the members of your fourth hour to attend.  We will go over the process of CAP projects.  We hope to have some of our community partners present.  If students are changing service sites, we will have leaders who have been to those sites give an orientation to the site.

 

Wednesday April 20 6:00 pm – 8:30 pm Villanova Room End of the Year SLC Celebration Dinner. All members of the SLC community are invited to celebrate our year together and to honor our student leadership. Sophomores will present their Community Action Projects.
