The Wall Street Journal Ranks the Villanova School of Business Executive MBA Program #1 for Classmate Contribution

VILLANOVA, PA, September 30, 2010 - VSB’s Executive MBA program was ranked #1 globally for classmates’ contributions to the learning experience by The Wall Street Journal.

In addition to this #1 ranking, of over 300 EMBA programs in the world, VSB’s program profile was also one of only 60 included in the bi-annual survey. “We are pleased that WSJ’s #1 ranking recognizes the caliber of our students and how much they contribute to the collective learning experience in the classroom,” said Robert Bonner, Associate Dean of Graduate and Executive Programs.

Villanova EMBA Student feedback, reported in today’s WSJ report, reflected the program’s strength in providing a global strategic focus through the program’s international immersion and highlighted students’ expanded problem-solving skills and their ability to make an immediate impact on driving decision making at the executive level.

Admission to Villanova’s EMBA program is highly selective. The typical EMBA student has 14 years of work experience, with 8 years in a management role. Says Dean James M. Danko, The Helen and William O'Toole Dean of the Villanova School of Business. “The small-group dynamic of our executive MBA program lends itself to a very strong alumni network. This sense of community extends to the connections between faculty and students, and between the school and its corporate partners. Combined with our systems-thinking curriculum, the result is a program that transforms effective managers into executive leaders.”

The ranking was compiled based on three components: how a school scored in a survey of members of the most current graduating EMBA class; status in a survey of companies familiar with EMBA programs; and how well it imparted management and leadership skills identified as crucial in the student and company surveys.  To calculate the final ranking, the student, corporate and skills scores were added up, with the student and corporate scores each given a weight of 40 percent of the final total and the skills score weighted at 20 percent.

In addition to the Wall Street Journal ranking, Financial Times currently ranks VSB’s EMBA #18 in the nation, and BusinessWeek ranks The Villanova MBA in the top 10 in academic quality. The Aspen Institute also ranks The Villanova MBA #55 worldwide in the “Beyond Grey Pinstripes” global ranking.
