Villanova Receives Rare Copy of Da Vinci’s Codex

Members of the Leonardo in Ambrosiana  Foundation presented Rev. Peter M. Donohue, OSA, PhD, with a copy of the Codex Atlanticus.

Villanova, PA Oct. 28, 2013 – Members of the Leonardo in Ambrosiana  Foundation presented Rev. Peter M. Donohue, OSA, PhD, with a copy of the Codex Atlanticus.  The Codex is a twelve-volume bound set of drawings and writings by Leonardo da Vinci.  Only 299 copies of the Codex exist, and few have been given out, including one to President Barack Obama. Fr. Donohue received the 42nd copy.

In attendance at the presentation were members of the Foundation, Monsignor Franco Buzzi, Professor Georgio Ricchebuono, and Paulo Catalfamo.  In addition, Joseph V. Del Raso ’74 VSB, chairman of the National Italian American Foundation, John Kozup, PhD and director of the Center for Public Policy and Research (CMPPR), and Patrick G. Maggitti, PhD, the Helen and William O’Toole Dean of VSB, were also present to enjoy the works of da Vinci. 

The Foundation supports, develops and promotes the Ambrosiana and its heritage to make this important museum part of the tourism and culture global market. The Foundation’s goal is to create common expositions and art exchanges.  They strive to raise the number of events hosted by the Biblioteca Ambrosiana every year. 

Monsignor Buzzi also gifted a number of books to the CMPPR. Kozup announced that Villanova University will publish the English translations of these works.  The Foundation also is committed to providing internships to Villanova students in business, cultural management, art history and restoration. After receiving the Codex, a special class was held in Bartley Hall regarding the business turnaround of the Foundation.  Following the class, a lunch was held and attended by members of the CMPPR and the Center for Church Management and Business Ethics leadership.
