Villanova, PA, November 17, 2014 - The office of Graduate Programs at the Villanova School of Business (VSB) has partnered with the Greater Philadelphia Senior Executive Group (GPSEG) to create a mentorship program for students pursuing VSB’s Master of Science in Finance (MSF). GPSEG will assist VSB’s Graduate Career Management office in providing senior level mentors for MSF students, beginning this year.

The new partnership enables the Graduate Career Management office to provide suitable mentor-mentee matches and facilitate more interaction between students and executive level finance professionals. The mentors will be available to MSF students to provide insight into the finance industry and offer advice on career development. In addition to explaining the industry in which they work and telling the student mentees about their particular company and experience, the mentors will also deliver resume feedback, provide tips and contacts to help build the students’ professional network and give direction on opportunities that could help the students reach their professional goals. The program also includes a feedback mechanism to assess the quality and progress of the relationship between the mentor and the mentee.

VSB’s MSF program is a 12-month, full-time degree program that includes hands-on interaction with the business world in addition to classroom study. Coursework includes financial theory, financial decision making, applied corporate financial analysis, derivatives and management of real-world investment funds. The MSF program at VSB has been accepted into the CFA Institute University Recognition Program. This status is granted to institutions whose degree program(s) incorporate at least 70% of the CFA Program Candidate Body of Knowledge (CBOK), which provide students with a solid grounding in the CBOK and positions them well to sit for the CFA exams.

“We are proud to partner with Villanova University to strengthen such a great program,” said Diane James, executive director of GPSEG. “The mission is precisely in-line with our core values – to strengthen the region’s business community through a shared spirit of generosity. It is truly a perfect fit for our ‘Networking for Life’ approach, which means we aim to create meaningful relationships that help others succeed. We are grateful for the opportunity to do that with Villanova students.”

Through a series of educational sessions, networking events and regional business outlook forums, GPSEG works to strengthen its 1,400 members as business leaders and individuals. The group’s participants – c-level business leaders, entrepreneurs and non-profit directors in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware, New York, Maryland and Virginia – look to apply their experience and network of contacts to help fellow members and aspiring business leaders solve business challenges, identify exciting new career opportunities and achieve professional development and growth.
