Dear Faculty and Staff,
The Division of Student Life and the Office of the Provost are pleased to announce the creation of the Center for Access Success and Achievement (CASA) and the Office of Intercultural Affairs (OIA). These two initiatives, along with the Office for Diversity and Inclusion (ODI) which was created last year, are part of continued efforts to institutionalize, add, and build upon the work previously undertaken by the former Center for Multicultural Affairs (CMA).
The Center for Access Success and Achievement
The Center for Access Success and Achievement (CASA) will continue to deliver the same excellent academically-oriented tutoring, retention, and other services previously undertaken by the CMA. CASA will be directed by Linda Coleman, former CMA Associate Director. Ms. Coleman’s able leadership at Villanova has been multi-faceted. Of note have been her achievement of industry leading results with the Academic Advancement Program, her pioneering work with the Villanova Engineering, Science Technology and Enrichment and Development program (V.E.S.T.E.D), and her co-creation and current coordination of the Women of Color Luncheon. Charisma Presley, Nicole Davis, Lauren Ward, and Renee Boyd-Shaw, along with several graduate assistants, will continue their work as part of CASA with Ms. Coleman.
CASA will function within the Provost organization and will report to the Associate Vice Provost for Teaching and Learning. This structure will enable CASA an even closer relationship with other offices and professionals dedicated to serving Villanova student learning needs. For the next year, CASA will be physically located in 102 Dougherty Hall in the suite currently occupied by CMA.
The Office of Intercultural Affairs
The Office of Intercultural Affairs (OIA) will create, maintain, and support programming and mentoring initiatives that seek to create and sustain a community of respect and inclusion for Villanova students with a special focus on underrepresented students. OIA will work collaboratively with the offices of Residence Life, Student Involvement, First & Second Year Initiatives, and the Office of Diversity and Inclusion, as needed. The OIA is in the process of searching for its inaugural director.
OIA will function within the Division of Student Life and will report to Vice President of Student Life. OIA will be physically located in 102 Dougherty Hall in the suite currently occupied by CMA.
The Office of Diversity and Inclusion
As noted earlier this year, the work of diversity and inclusion once done in CMA has been moved to the Office of Diversity and Inclusion (ODI) whose expanded institutional focus will allow for more direct contact and services offered to the Colleges, Offices and other programs of the University.
ODI will continue its ongoing work under the leadership of Terry Nance, PhD, Associate Vice Provost of Diversity and Inclusion and Chief Diversity Officer of Villanova University and Brighid Dwyer serves as Director, Program on Intergroup Relations within ODI. The physical location of the ODI is to be determined
