Dr. Stephen Jones Publishes Scholarship Guide

Dr. Stephen Jones, Associate Dean of Student and Strategic Programs

An estimated $90 billion in scholarship funds is available for postsecondary education, according to Dr. Stephen Jones, Associate Dean of Student and Strategic Programs in the College of Engineering. Helping students and parents access that money is the focus of Dr. Jones' book Ultimate Scholarship Guide, released in July 2008 by SAJ Publishing.

"Over the years, I have found that students do not know how to approach the scholarship search," Dr. Jones said. "As a result, millions of dollars go unused. Given the rising cost of a college education, I decided to write a book to help students and parents uncover this money."

Among the topics included in Ultimate Scholarship Guide are writing an effective scholarship letter, preparing for a scholarship interview, obtaining money for international studies, uncovering corporate and federal grants, and financing graduate school. The book also provides advice from financial-aid experts, action steps, and a list of scholarship Web sites.

This book is the latest in a series that Dr. Jones has authored on the secrets to student success. In August, he and his family were interviewed for a segment that aired on Good Morning, America about the place of education on the national political agenda. "The public has not pushed the issue of education with the candidates because of the economy and the war," Dr. Jones said, "but I believe that providing access to better schools, properly preparing students, and being able to pay for college are still priorities for most families."

Dr. Jones will be discussing all his books and signing copies on Tuesday, September 16, from 6:30 to 7:30 PM in Falvey Library. For more information on Dr. Jones' books, visit his Web site at www.sevenbooks.net.
