US News & World Report has once again ranked Villanova’s College of Engineering among the top ten undergraduate engineering programs in the country. In the magazine’s “America’s Best Colleges” rankings for 2010, Villanova is ranked #10 in the Best Undergraduate Engineering Programs category for schools that award primarily bachelor’s and master’s degrees.
In addition, Villanova University has again placed #1 in the North Region/Master’s category, a distinction it has enjoyed for nearly two decades. The University also has been recognized in a number of other categories, including “Strong Commitment to Teaching” and “First-Year Experience.”
Many attributes distinguish the College of Engineering and explain why the highest quality students are attracted to Villanova. The College has revised its already nationally ranked undergraduate program by introducing this fall a new freshman curriculum. It gives first-year students a multidisciplinary, hands-on experience in engineering analysis, design, and research.
One of the College of Engineering’s unique strengths is that it provides its students with access to a top-ranked university made up of outstanding colleges. “Because our students take advantage of the opportunity to pursue studies in the arts, sciences, and business, they are well prepared to meet the demands of a multidisciplinary workplace,” said Dr. Gary A. Gabriele, the Drosdick Endowed Dean of Engineering. In addition, students develop their worldviews by engaging in service learning locally, nationally, and around the world.
Embracing the University’s teaching mission, dedicated faculty teach all undergraduate classes and labs and make time for individual instruction and advising. These are the same faculty who are nationally recognized in their areas of expertise, and students, both undergraduate and graduate, participate in their research. In fact, the expanding and highly regarded MS and PhD programs are drawing more and more students who want to deepen their technical expertise on either a part-time or full-time basis.
