VILLANOVA, Pa. – Villanova University announced that its Board of Trustees has elected Catherine M. Keating, Head of Investment Management Americas at J.P. Morgan, as its chairperson. Keating succeeds Terence M. O’Toole, who served as chair of the Board of Trustees since 2011.
“Catherine brings tremendous knowledge and experience to the role of chair of the Board of Trustees,” said the Rev. Peter M. Donohue, OSA, PhD, Villanova University President. “She has been a very active, engaged member of the Board, and her comprehensive knowledge of both the opportunities and key issues facing the institution will be a great asset in her new role. I look forward to working closely with Catherine to create an exciting future for Villanova University.”
The University also announced the election of Paul A. Tufano, Esq., Executive Vice President, General Counsel and President of Government Markets of Independence Blue Cross, as vice chair of the Board of Trustees. Additionally, four new members were elected to the Board of Trustees. The Rev. Peter G. Gori, OSA, JCD (Pastor of St. Augustine Parish in Andover, Mass.); Elizabeth T. Mazzeo (Chief Operating Officer of Bloomberg, LP); Robert J. McCarthy (Chief Operations Officer for Marriott International, Inc.); and Patrick M. McMahon (Chief Executive Officer and Co-Chief Investment Officer of MKP Capital Management, LLC), joined the 34-member Board, effective Jan. 1.
“The addition of these accomplished alumni serves to strengthen the Board of Trustees which provides critical oversight and guidance for the University,” added Fr. Donohue. “I am grateful for their commitment to Villanova and its mission.”

Catherine M. Keating is Head of Investment Management Americas at J.P. Morgan, where she is responsible for overseeing one of the largest providers of investment management services. Keating is also a member of the JPMorgan Chase & Co. Executive Committee, the senior leadership group of the corporation, and a member of the Asset Management Division Operating Committee. In addition, she serves as a director of the JPMorgan Chase Foundation. Keating was previously the CEO of United States Private Banking at J.P. Morgan. Prior to joining J.P. Morgan in 1996, Keating was a partner in the international law firm of Morgan, Lewis & Bockius LLP. She is a frequent author and speaker on investment and wealth planning topics. Keating has been featured in interviews appearing in Business Week, The Wall Street Journal, Barron’s , The Financial Times, and Institutional Investor, among others, and has appeared on CNBC and Business Week TV. Additionally, she has been named one of the Most Powerful Women in Banking by US Banker. Keating serves on the Boards of Trustees of the Girl Scout Council of Greater New York, the Inner-City Scholarship Fund, and the New York Women’s Forum. She had served as vice chair of the Villanova University Board of Trustees since 2011.
Keating earned her Bachelor of Arts degree from Villanova University in 1984 and went on to receive a JD from the University of Virginia School of Law. She resides in Bronxville, N.Y.

Paul A. Tufano, Esq., is Executive Vice President, General Counsel and President of Government Markets of Independence Blue Cross, a full-service health insurance corporation headquartered in Philadelphia. In his role as General Counsel, Tufano is responsible for the Company’s legal, regulatory, government and public affairs. As President of Government Markets, he oversees the Company’s Medicare and Medicaid businesses and serves as Chairman of the Board of the AmeriHealth Mercy Family of Companies. Prior to joining Independence Blue Cross, Tufano served in the cabinet of Governor Tom Ridge as General Counsel of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. Before that he was a partner with the Philadelphia law firm of Blank, Rome, Comisky & McCauley. He served on the Transition Teams of three Pennsylvania Governors: Tom Ridge, Ed Rendell and Tom Corbett. Tufano is a past member of the Board of Trustees of the Philadelphia Bar Foundation and was the Founding Chairman of the Pennsylvania Bar Association’s Government Lawyers Committee. He currently serves as Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts and is a board member of WHYY, as well as the Committee of Seventy.
Tufano earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Accountancy from the Villanova University School of Business in 1983 and his JD from the Villanova University School of Law (VLS) in 1986. He is currently a member of the VLS Board of Consultors and a past president of the Villanova University Alumni Association. Tufano resides in Devon, Pa.

The Reverend Peter G. Gori, OSA, JCD, is Pastor of St. Augustine Parish in Andover, Mass. A private practice Canonist, Fr. Gori has served as a member of the Metropolitan Tribunal of the Archdiocese of Boston since 1989. He also sits on the Presbyteral Council, Archdiocese of Boston and is UNICO’s Chaplain. Fr. Gori has been actively involved on the Boards of the Steward Health Care System, currently serving as a Trustee/Director of Holy Family Hospital in Methuen, Mass., and is a member of the Board of Directors of Lazarus House Ministries, Lawrence, Mass. Following his ordination as an Augustinian priest in 1979, Fr. Gori became the Parochial Vicar of St. Nicholas of Tolentine Parish, Jamaica, N.Y. He subsequently served as Parochial Vicar, St. Augustine Parish, Andover, Mass.; Pastor, St. Augustine Parish, Lawrence, Mass.; Founding Pastor, Our Lady of Good Counsel Parish, Methuen, Mass.; and Chaplain of the Presentation of Mary Sisters, Methuen, Mass. Fr. Gori received his Bachelor of Science in Education from Villanova University’s College of Liberal Arts and Sciences in 1975. He went on to earn his Master of Arts degree from the Washington Theological Union, and JCL and JCD degrees from the Pontifical University of St. Thomas, Rome, Italy. Fr. Gori lives in Andover, Mass.
Elizabeth T. Mazzeo is the Chief Operating Officer of Bloomberg, L.P., a leading global provider of business and financial data, news and analytics based in New York. Mazzeo joined Bloomberg in 1986, and was instrumental in developing Bloomberg's trading system, Bloomberg Tradebook, as well as additional trading applications. Prior to her appointment as COO, she served as Bloomberg's Global Head of Data Products. She is also a member of Bloomberg's management committee. Prior to joining Bloomberg, Mazzeo worked for Integrated Resources, a financial services firm. She began her career on the syndicate desk of CM&M, a division of Carroll, McEntee and McGinley. Mazzeo, who has served as a member of the Villanova University School of Business (VSB) Dean's Advisory Council, received her Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from VSB in 1981. Mazzeo resides in Skillman, N.J.
Robert J. McCarthy is Chief Operations Officer for Marriott International, Inc. During his 37-year tenure with Marriott, which began as a waiter while he was a student at Villanova, McCarthy has held a number of executive and management positions. In his current role, he oversees financial management and leadership across 18 brands, and almost 3,800 hotels, globally. Prior to being named to his current position in early 2012, he held the title of Group President, North America for six years, supervising staff operations and field operations across 3,000 hotels and 120,000 employees. McCarthy is a past member of the Villanova School of Business Dean's Advisory Board and the Dean's Advisory Board at Cornell University's School of Hotel Administration. Currently, he is a Board member of the Autism Learning Center and the ServiceSource Foundation, an organization that supports people with disabilities. McCarthy received his Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from the Villanova University School of Business (VSB) in 1975. He lives in McLean, Virginia.
Patrick M. McMahon is Chief Executive Officer, Co-Chief Investment Officer and serves on the Investment Committee of MKP Capital Management, LLC, a private investment management firm in New York City and London. Prior to founding MKP Capital Management in 1995, he worked for nine years at Salomon Brothers Inc., where he was a Partner during his final year and a Managing Director in the Fixed Income Capital Markets Division. McMahon has served as a member of Villanova’s Executive Committee on the President’s Leadership Circle, and established The Endowed Fund for Villanova Men’s Basketball, as well as The Patrick and Kristen McMahon Endowed Scholarship. He is a Board Member and Treasurer of the Each One Counts Foundation, founded by a Villanova University alumnus to raise funds to ease the physical pain and suffering of terminally ill children who are receiving pediatric hospice or palliative care. He also serves on the Board of Directors of the ELS for Autism Foundation established by professional golfer Ernie Els. McMahon received his Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from the Villanova University School of Business (VSB) in 1985. He lives in New York City.
