VILLANOVA, Pa. – The Center for Innovation, Creativity and Entrepreneurship (ICE Center) – housed within the Villanova School of Business at Villanova University – will host its annual, campus-wide Pitch Day event April 24, providing students from across the University’s schools and colleges the opportunity to showcase their creativity and entrepreneurial spirit, while getting real-world experience in building an idea from the ground up.

Pitch Day 2014 will take place Thursday, April 24, on the campus of Villanova University. The program will feature presentations from Villanova students participating in the fifth-annual Villanova Student Entrepreneurship Competition (VSEC), as well as the University’s Mobile Applications Course and Entrepreneurship Minor programs.

During the VSEC competition, student entrepreneurs will present original ideas and prototypes to a panel of alumni and guest judges who are involved in business development, investments, marketing, and technology. In addition to the $10,000 that will be awarded to student startups through VSEC, students will get invaluable feedback from mentors and advisors that can help the advance their ideas. This competition was founded in 2009 by two graduate engineering students, Ronald Warzoha and Timothy Montalbano, and continues to operate today in tandem with Villanova’s “Beyond Ideas” organization on campus.

“We are arming Villanova students with the necessary skills and perspectives to start a venture – whether they want to launch now or 10 years from now,” said II Luscri, Director of the Center for Innovation, Creativity and Entrepreneurship (ICE Center). “Starting a venture isn’t for everyone, but the creative problem solving skillset we equip our students with will be useful regardless of their post-Villanova plans.”

The ability to think creativity and entrepreneurially is considered one of the most important leadership characteristics by today’s leading executives. To that end, the ICE Center strives to support traditional student-entrepreneurship and startups, to nurture students so they are prepared to stand out in the marketplace as creative and innovative thinkers, and to encourage interdisciplinary collaboration.

“We believe in finding ways for students, alumni, and faculty from different disciplines to spend time together and to think creatively,” noted Luscri. “Pitch Day is a perfect venue to see that philosophy in action. Seventy teams with students representing every Villanova school and college are entered VSEC this year.”
