VILLANOVA, Pa. – “Prism of Life,” an exhibit opening April 30 at the Villanova University Art Gallery, showcases the art of former Villanova staff member, Ward Van Haute. The show comprises more than 30 of Van Haute's most recent figurative paintings, featuring luminous, color rich, reverse images on glass. The exhibit continues through June 8.
The campus community is invited to a reception from 5-7 p.m., Friday, May 8, to meet the self-taught artist and former Villanova Theatre Department property master. The event will take place in the Art Gallery, located on the 2nd floor of the Connelly Center on Villanova’s Main Campus. Refreshments will be served.
In his paintings, Van Haute says he “focuses on human form in whimsical settings that reflect my cheerful engagement with the world. I'm not dark or off-putting. Oils on the reverse of glass capture ambient light like no other medium and support combination can.”
Van Haute has worked as a prop master/set dresser on television and theatrical productions in Philadelphia and New York. He served as properties master for Villanova Theatre from 2006-2013, and holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from De Sales University.
The Villanova University Art Gallery is open weekdays from 9 a.m. -11 p.m. For extended and weekend hours, and other information, contact the Art Gallery at (610) 519-4612. Selected works in the Van Haute exhibit may be previewed on the gallery's website: www.artgallery.villanova.edu.
