Recovery Specialist

The Recovery Specialist (CRS) certificate program is ideal for individuals who are interested in becoming peer professionals trained to help others move through the recovery process. Villanova’s Recovery Specialist program is offered in collaboration with the Pennsylvania Certification Board (PCB) to provide students with a comprehensive approach to achieving the education hours needed to become CRS certified.

To complete the program and receive a Villanova University certificate of completion students must attend 7 required courses.

Program Details

  • Students must attend all seven Recovery Specialist required classes (see below) in the same term.
  • Earn .80 CEU's - 8 classroom education hours (56 total hours) - for each class to apply towards PCB certification or certificate renewal.
  • Classes are held Saturday's for 9 hours with a 1 hour lunch break.
  • To complete the program and earn a certificate of completion, students must attend all 7 courses and receive a passing grade.
  • Registration closes 48 hours before the class start; payment/or a payment plan is required 48 hours before the class start or the student will be dropped from the program.

Pennsylvania Certification Board Requirements

For individuals to become a CRS they must meet the Pennsylvania Certification Board (PCB) requirements which include

  • High school education
  • 54 hours of education specific to addiction recovery
  • A minimum of 18 months of lived, continuous, personal recovery experience
  • Passing grade on the Certified Recovery Specialist exam
  • Signed ethical code of conduct

The classes that you attend at Villanova University will provide you with the necessary hours of education to sit for the exam.
