MBA International Business Program in Dubai

American University in the Emirates (AUE)

This 3-week program for MBA students includes an introduction to business, culture, and society in the Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf (GCC) Region. Through seminars (in English) taught by the Faculty and Industry Leaders at the American University in the Emirates and with site visits in Dubai and the surrounding Emirates, students are introduced to the Economic Policies, Business Practices, Finance and Islamic Banking, Dubai Stock Exchange, and Marketing Strategies of the GCC.

Must be an MBA student in good academic standing.
*A few spaces are available to non-Villanova University MBA students.

No language proficiency required.
No prerequisites required.
Open to newly admitted students in the Flex and Fast Track Graduate Programs.

Coursework

MBA 8523 International Business Studies: Dubai International Practicum - 3 credits
Lectures at AUE in Dubai include the following topics but are not restricted to: Culture and Religion in the Gulf, Economic Policies of GCC countries, Business Negotiation in the Gulf, Marketing Strategies in the Gulf region, Asset Management, Real Estate, Tourism Industry, and Financial Centers and Islamic Banking in the Gulf region.

There will also be a session at the US Consulate in Dubai on US Export Policy in the GCC.

A visit to the College of Business Administration at Abu Dhabi University is planned during the visit to Abu Dhabi.

*The Office of Education Abroad will register you for two courses. The first will be VAB8000 which is merely a placeholder which initiates billing and allows us to track MBA students studying abroad. The second registration will be for MBA8523. You do not have to worry abour registering for this course.

Housing and Meals

In Dubai, students will reside in double room occupancy residency at a nearby hotel in close proximity to AUE campus located in Academic City. Housing and most meals of different ethnicities are included with the program fee. Students will travel predominantly by bus that will be provided for transportation by AUE for all program related trips while in Dubai. For personal travel in Dubai, metered taxis are readily available at very reasonable rates to and from AUE and/or the hotel. Language is not a problem on the AUE campus as English is widely spoken. Even off campus, students will be able to converse with local people in English throughout the GCC region.

Excursions

Planned site meetings and visits include Dubai Chamber of Commerce, Department of Economic Development, Jebel Ali Free Zone & The Palm, DUBAL -Dubai Aluminium Company, Dubai Stock Exchange, and a Petrochemical Company.

Cultural activities for the students during previous years for this program have included a trip to the Heritage VillageSheikh Zayed Grand Mosque, Yas Hotel, and Saadiyat Island in Abu Dhabi, Dubai City Tour, and Desert Safari and Desert Party with Camel rides and Henna as well as visits to Bastakiya Dubai – Historical Town Center, Welcome Dinner at Kan Zaman in the Shindagha Heritage Village on Dubai Creek, Dubai Mall, Mall of the Emirates, Atop Burj Khalifa (Tallest building in the World), New Year's Eve Celebration at Atlantis The Palm, a Dhow Cruise on Dubai Creek, Farewell Dinner at Jumeirah Beach Hotel and Tea /Refreshments at the Skyview Bar of the Burj Al-Arab.

Immunizations

It is recommended that all students have an up-to-date tetanus booster and the hepatitis A series of 2 shots, as well as the hepatitis B series. Please contact your personal physician to make arrangements and verify your immunization history. Additional information can be found at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Insurance

By signing the Villanova University Release Form, you are agreeing to the fact that you have health insurance coverage while in Dubai. If your current policy does not cover you in Dubai, please follow this link to the Student Handbook and scroll to page 10 for insurance provider suggestions.

Dates

Winter-term 2018 Program: Dates have yet to be finalized for the 2018-18 program. Tentative dates are 26,27 December 2017 - 11 or 12 January, 2018

These dates are tentative and could fluctuate +/- 3 days, and will be confirmed closer to deadline, once group flight details are confirmed. Due to flight time

**Program departs from US on 26 or 27 December and arrives/begins in Dubai on 27 or 28 December. Program ends/departs from Dubai on 11 or 12 January and arrives in USA on 12 or 13 January. 

Finances and Application Info

NOW ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS FOR 2018 TERM!

Applications are due no later than 22 September 2017.

After deadline, inquire about the availability of participation in the program via email to: Dr. Sohail Chaudhry; the non-refundable commitment fee of $450 is due within two weeks of receipt of acceptance letter. VU student account will be invoiced the balance of the program beginning on September 25, 2017; final payment due no later than October 23, 2017.

  • Commitment Fee can be paid via the ePayment portal on Bursar.Villanova.edu
  • Final Balance is invoiced to VU student account and can be paid via MyNova/Novasis. 

Program Costs

2017-18 Fee: $6,750 - $7,250, confirmed early-September

2016-17 Fee was $7,050

Includes: tuition, double room residency, daily breakfast, most lunches and some dinners, wireless internet, excursions, and airport pickup and drop-off for students on group flight. Airfare included. Dr. Chaudhry will have a group flight option available in mid-late September. The group flight will be coordinated by Dr. Chaudhry.
