Rome: Economic and Political Union, Arts and Culture of Italy

Location: Rome, Italy - John Cabot University

The purpose of this program is to provide students with the opportunity to participate in their choice of academic courses overseas and to gain an international perspective on global business activities. Students from all four Villanova University colleges are encouraged to apply.

No language proficiency required.
Minimum 2.75 GPA on a 4.0 scale.

Course Offerings

All courses are conducted in English.

Required course:

ECO-3108/4200: Case Study of the Economic and Political Union of Europe. Course is letter graded. This course will include a series of lectures and site visits.

 

All students enroll in one additional business or social science course offered by John Cabot University during the summer session. 3 credits Classes at John Cabot are two hours a day, Monday through Thursday.

Non-VSB students must obtain approval for their JCU course prior to departure. Students can view the Previously Approved Courses for JCU here.

Please complete the template with all the required course information. Our office will work with the relevant academic faculty to facilitate the course approvals, which could take 1-2 weeks. The OEA will contact you to let you know when your courses have been approved. You will then need to stop by the OEA to pick up your finalized Course Approval Form, which you will then take to the relevant department(s) for their final approval.

Failure to obtain approval for your course will result in no credit being awarded. Please make sure your course is approved prior to registration so that you can be reassured that it counts towards your correct academic requirements.

John Cabot University arranges for students to share apartments throughout the city. Every effort is made to locate apartments relatively close to John Cabot. Students may elect to prepare meals in their apartments or to take advantage of the wide variety of restaurants available in Rome.

Excursions

In recent years, site visits have included the US Embassy, UN organizations in Rome, and various business firms. Students are able to arrange independent travel to visit other Italian cities and tourist areas on weekends. They may also take advantage of the wide range of social and cultural activities such as musical performances, theater, film, opera, and social clubs available in Rome.

Gymnasium and sports club facilities are available through John Cabot University.

Itinerary

Students Leave USA for Rome:  Tuesday, May 15

Students Move into John Cabot:  Wednesday, May 16

JCU Classes begin:  Monday, May 21

JCU Final Exams:  Friday, June 22

Students Return to USA:  Saturday, June 23

Finances

2018 Fee:  $7,500 (2018 Fee is TBD)

Includes tuition, housing, orientations, various receptions and excursions, airport transfers, and fees. A $15 VU fee will be added to program fee at time of final billing.

Upon acceptance, student will have 2-weeks to submit a $450 non-refundable commitment fee. Program balance is invoiced directly to the VU student account during the first week of April, with final balance due May 1.

Students interested in financing should first review the OEA Scholarship page. Should there be a need to secure additional funding through loans, Villanova University students should contact the Office of Financial Assistance.

Students with a Federal Pell grant should consider applying for the Benjamin A. Gilman Scholarship!
