Bobby Costa

Bobby Costa

'18 COE, Civil Engineering

VU Highlights: I am involved with the Special Olympics Committee, New Student Orientation, LEVEL, and of course the Career Center! I have also participated in mission trips through campus ministry and the engineering school. I was fortunate enough to be able to travel to Ghana in 2016!

Career Aspirations: In the future, I hope to become a transportation engineer for any company after graduating from Villanova. Optimistically, after getting my career started, I would love to use my entrepreneur skills to start a civil engineering company of my own!

Most unusual job: My most unusual job would have to be a soccer referee. Although this does not sound unusual at first, there were often times I had to referee high school students or adults when I was only fourteen years old!

Favorite Career Center resource: Although technically not used solely at the Career Center, I love the idea of Handshake. There are a variety of applications Handshake that can be used for to help Villanovans including networking and job searching.

VU Highlights: NOVAdance Committee, Special Olympics Committee, Blue Key Society, Alpha Phi, Student Alumni Association, and last but not least, CAREER ASSISTANT!

Career Aspirations: You never know where life will take you but I’d love to work in Public Relations at least in the beginning of my career.

Most unusual job: Not too unusual, but I was a Beach Badge Checker/Gate Attendant at the beach for two summers in high school, and it wasn’t too thrilling, but I definitely got to talk to a lot of interesting people!

Favorite Career Center resource: Handshake is such an awesome tool with so many useful features. There are some cool updates this year so be sure to check them out!

VU Highlights: Social Chair of the Indoor Rock Climbing Club, Fitness Center Assistant & most importantly, Career Assistant!

Career Aspirations: I’m still in the process of selecting a major but I always want to be challenged and engaged in the work I do and make a positive impact.

Most unusual job: I was a background person for some movies and TV shows, and got to meet some celebrities such as Scarlett Johansson. Also, I was a child model for J. Crew Cuts.

Favorite Career Center resource: The Strong Interest Inventory Test is really helpful and insightful for those who are lost in respect to selecting a major; it really gives you a good start to which industries or fields you may be happiest in.

'18 VSB, Economics, Accounting & Finance

VU Highlights: VSB Peer Advisor; Faith and Learning Scholars; Big fan of Marvel and DC comics; Baseball enthusiast.

Career Aspirations: My perfect career would allow me the opportunity to be a major contributor and make a positive impact on society and will begin my journey with J&J.

Most unusual job: Summer of 2015, I worked as a retail finance intern for The Hershey Company. Spring 2016 I was a supply chain finance co-op for Johnson & Johnson. Spring 2017 I was an audit intern for PwC and tax intern for Glenmede Trust Company. Summer 2017 I was a US Sales and Marketing intern with Johnson & Johnson.

Favorite Career Center resource: My favorite resource is Handshake because of the different services it offers. It can be used for the job search or different events on campus.

 

Hattemer-Maier

Ted Hattemer-Maier

'18 CLAS, Economics

VU Highlights: Athletic Facilities Assistant, Sigma Chi Fraternity, Pre-Law Society, Order of Omega, Career Assistant, and although it isn't really at VU- studying abroad in Paris.

Career Aspirations: After school I'm hoping to work in economic consulting or other legal-type consulting and then eventually go to law school.

Most unusual job: I worked as cart staff during a PGA seniors tour golf tournament in Boston.

Favorite Career Center resource: I like Handshake a lot because I enjoy browsing the positions on there, and the ease of applying through it makes it my favorite.

VU Highlights: LIFT Mentor, Beta Alpha Psi Business Honor Society, President of the Tau Xi Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., Relay for Life Exec Finance Chair, and of course CAREER ASSISTANT!

Career Aspirations: I hope to begin my career at a Big Four Accounting Firm in the Advisory Practice. I will just have to see where life takes me afterward.

Most unusual job: My most unusual job was working as a POS Associate for Kohl's (even though working at Kohl's is a normal job). However, I met many different and interesting customers. I also have a few memorable customer interactions.

Favorite Career Center resource: Villanova Alumni Network - You will be amazed by how many Villanovans you find in various industries! They are also very willing to help other Villanovans!

Margaret Heintzelman

'18 VSB, Finance

VU Highlights: Apart from working at the Career Center, I devote my time to various business societies and my leadership position with my sorority, Kappa Kappa Gamma. I constantly attend various career panels and leadership workshops in order to strengthen and develop my skill set. Taking advantage of the endless opportunities at Villanova has been so rewarding and always has me busy!

Career Aspirations: As a finance major, I have countless avenues I can take within the industry. This past summer I interned for an investment adviser and enjoyed the client facing aspect of the role. Down the road I would love to get more exposure on this side of the business.

Most unusual job: I have some pretty wild babysitting stories. Contact for further info.

Favorite Career Center resource: Handshake provides a ton of opportunities. It is reassuring that the companies advertising their jobs on Handshake are targeting Villanova students! Above all, VIllanova alum prove to be the most helpful resource. Their love for the Nova Nation makes them excited to help out fellow Cats as much as possible.

VU Highlights: Cross Country/Track and Field team member, student-athlete writing tutor, SJE trip to Peru, student-athlete service trip with Habitat for Humanity in Virginia, Back On My Feet Team West Philly, and Career Assistant!

Career Aspirations: It is my dream to travel the world and have a job that requires me to do so. I have interests in journalism, video production, marketing, social media, athletics, and helping people around me, so I'm still working on some ideas to bring all of these together.

Most unusual job: Since most of my time is dedicated to athletics, I have not had many jobs throughout my life. One unusual thing that goes along with my position on the cross country and track teams is that I am a certified van driver for the team. A few days a week I escort myself and my teammates to off-campus practices in a HUGE white Ford van. So if you see me in the driver's seat of a big van, make sure to duck and hide...just kidding ;).

Favorite Career Center resource: Handshake offers a multitude of resources, from job postings to upcoming campus events, it has it all. So be sure to take advantage of all that it has to offer!

VU Highlights: VSB Ambassador, Kappa Delta Sorority, Career Assistant, Honors Program

Career Aspirations: I hope to have a position with an internationally-focused company. I would love to work overseas and utilize my Spanish skills, which I look forward to developing while studying abroad this fall in Sevilla, Spain.

Most unusual job: I scooped ice cream at a neighborhood shoppe for two weeks before getting let go because I broke my toe and my cast wasn't allowed behind the counter.

Favorite Career Center resource: CareerShift is great for finding company contacts. I log in to my CareerShift account all the time to find recruiter emails for following up to an application

Jake Kunz

'18 VSB, Accounting & Finance

VU Highlights: VSB Peer Advisor Executive Board, Former Treasurer of the Accounting Society, Service and Justice Experience, Intramural Sports, and, of course, Career Assistant.

Career Aspirations: I recently accepted a full time offer at Deloitte. Long-term, I hope to be an executive at a major company or dueling against Jordan Spieth on Sunday afternoons.

Most unusual job: During one of my internships I audited a company’s cafeteria. I had the privilege of testing food quality to make sure it met company standards.

Favorite Career Center resource: The staff at the Career Center are very friendly and always willing to help students with career-related questions or concerns.

Kate McMahon

'20 CLAS, Arts Undeclared

VU Highlights: Besides working at the Career Center, I am involved in Blue Key as a tour guide and a Development Chair this year. I also love to help out with Special Olympics and go to athlete practices weekly. I am also a participant in Service and Justice experiences. Lastly, I am a member of the Phi Sigma Pi Honor Fraternity.

Career Aspirations: In the future, I hope to somehow combine my passion for working with kids and making people smile. That or a supreme court justice, keeping all doors open.

Most unusual job: My most unusual job would have to be frequent Guinea pig sitting. My neighbors often left me in charge of their pet Guinea pig. His name was S’mores and I actually came to really like S’mores and put little American Girl clothes and hats on him. At one point I even put little glasses on him, clearly it was kind of a bummer whenever they came home and I was relieved of my Guinea pig sitting duties.

Favorite Career Center resource: I think Handshake is versatile and has many uses for students. It can be used for to help students network, find on campus interviews, and even search for jobs. But I would have to say my favorite Career Center resource would be the wonderful and enthusiastic staff members of the Career Center. They are truly always ready to help and are some of the best people Villanova has to offer in my opinion.

Career Aspirations: Pharmaceuticals or some kind of health care position where I get to work with and help a lot of people

Most unusual job: I worked at Verizon Wireless and I got paid to hold the door open for people for 8 hours a day and one time a 7-year-old smacked my butt and nobody in the whole entire store saw it. Super embarrassing.

Favorite Career Center resource: Definitely the resume review because many people do not know how to put together a good resume, which is really important for any profession.

VU Highlights: Equity Society, Blue Key Society, Alpha Chi Omega Sorority, LPH, and Career Assistant!

Career Aspirations: I am planning to double major in Finance and Business Analytics and hope to maybe work in New York or Boston, but want to make sure I find a job that I am passionate about.

Most unusual job: Teaching swim lessons to very young kids. It is not easy to say the least.

Favorite Career Center resource: Handshake because it really helps you find job opportunities and keep up to date with things happening on campus.

VU Highlights: Honors Program, Alpha Chi Omega Sorority, Pre-Law Society, Career Assistant

Career Aspirations: I am currently on track to double major in Political Science and Honors with hopes to attend a prestigious law school. I would also love to study nutrition someday because I am very passionate about health and diet.

Most unusual job: My most unusual job would have to be when I reffed girls youth lacrosse games in high school. While it definitely made me more knowledgeable about the rules of the game as an actual player, it was definitely an eye opener to see how cut throat some of the parents became when they watched their 5th graders play lacrosse!

Favorite Career Center resource: My favorite career center resource would have to be Handshake. Not only does it post jobs/internships exclusively for Villanova students, it also has gotten a lot easier to use in the past year.

VU Highlights: Ambassadors, NOVAdance, and Day of Service Planning Committee

Career Aspirations: I’m not entirely sure what I want to do yet but I do know that I want to have a job that I can work with and help others.

Most unusual job: I worked at Target which is isn’t too unusual, but while I was working there though I definitely encountered some pretty interesting customers.

Favorite Career Center resource: LinkedIn gives you access to important people and resources in such a quick and easy way.

VU Highlights: Special Olympics Committee, Women in Business Society, MIS Society, Level, and of course Career Assistant!

Career Aspirations: I am looking to have a career in the Information Systems and Information Technology field.

Most unusual job: I worked as a lifeguard and I think the most unusual thing I had to do as a lifeguard was test out a trapeze above a pool!

Favorite Career Center resource: Definitely Handshake! I love being able to log into Handshake and immediately having a multitude of opportunities to look into.

Career Aspirations: I hope to work in finance or somehow combine that and corporate law

Most unusual job: Sales Associate at a fine jewelry store in my hometown

Favorite Career Center resource: I would have to say the staff! They are always so eager to help any student with any and all career questions. The staff and career center assistants make the Career Center at Villanova so special.
