Savannah Trifiro was a Fulbright English Teaching Assistant in Indonesia.

On her experience:

"Living, teaching, and learning with my Fulbright U.S. Student Award in Indonesia has been one of the most enriching, yet challenging experiences I have ever had and continue to have. I am based in Magelang, a small city surrounded by five climate controlling mountains located about an hour north of Yogyakarta, Central Java. It's a fairly nice city with an abundance of friendly people -- many of which do not speak English, or anything other than their native languages, so I am doing my best to practice Bahasa Indonesia and Boso Jowo (Javanese). As I mentioned, Indonesians are some of, if not the friendliest people I have ever had the pleasure of spending time with. Despite the language barrier, our attempted conversations are sure to guarantee lots of smiles and laughs.

Through my role as an English Teaching Assistant and cultural ambassador, I am continuing to embrace this experience as an opportunity to further educate others as well as myself. I owe many thanks to CRF for helping me get here. Had it not been for their commitment to assisting myself and other applicants through the process, from the encouragement to being our second set of eyes to providing a communal space for us to work and ask questions (and nourish ourselves with fruit and cookies), I'm not sure I would be where I am.

I am very fortunate for this journey; Indonesia is an incredibly interesting country that is home to an array of beauty and rich culture. Every day brings something new, and between the good and the tough, I know my remaining four months are going to speed by."
