"Me with my poster right when we set it up for judging"

Caytlin Nichols received a VURF travel grant to present her research at the American Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (ASBMB) Conference.

On her experience:

"On our first day of presenting at the ASBMB conference, we were required to present this day due to winning the ASBMB scholarship for research. We were judged by three judges and each were required to ask three to four questions about our research, which I thankfully could answer all of them.

On the second day we were required to present, all poster topics dealing with purification and characterization of protein were presenting. This day we were not judged, but were required to stand by our posters in order to answer any questions for those who passed by and wanted to know about Prostaglandin H2 Synthase homologs in bacteria.

Overall, the ASBMB conference was one of the best experiences of my life. I learned so much that weekend, including new ways to proceed with my project as well as other ways to approach studying bacteria. I have many people to thank including VURF for the opportunity to travel to California, my colleagues Eden and Gia, my lab mate Stephanie Neumann, and of course my professor Dr. Selinsky. Thank you so much for this opportunity and for the memories at the ASBMB conference. Without VURF’s help I would not have been able to attend and I would have missed out on a once in a lifetime chance."
