Andrew Lee, senior Mechanical Engineering major, used his VURF travel grant to attend the Material Research Society Fall Meeting in Boston.
On his experience:
"To complement ongoing nanomaterials research in the Mechanical Engineering Department, I joined over 6,500 fellow engineers and scientists from more than 55 countries at the Material Research Society Fall Meeting in Boston. Symposiums in thermal transport, additive manufacturing of biomaterials and graphene based superconductors provided a broad snapshot of the material science frontier. In particular, a panel on carbon-based materials highlighted future challenges of in-situ assembly, room temperature semi-conductors and miniaturization of machines. Attending this conference reinforced my passion for materials science and future plan to pursue a Ph.D. in nanomaterials. I would like to thank my advisors Dr. Gang Feng and Dr. Amy Fleischer and the Villanova Center for Research and Fellowships for allowing me this opportunity."
