Shantel Silva, a senior math major, received a VURF travel grant to present at the Nebraska Conference for Undergraduate Women in Mathematics in February 2017 with fellow VU math major Tasha Boland.
On Shantel's conference experience:
"Tasha Boland and I had an amazing time attending and participating in the Nebraska Conference for Undergraduate Women in Mathematics in Lincoln, Nebraska. It was hosted by University of Nebraska-Lincoln, who organized this unique and inspiring atmosphere of women of diverse career interests and talents, but all share a passion for mathematics. We met women who use math to work in both academia and industry. We also met other students from around the country who either chose to attend and listen to talks and panels, or chose to also conduct research of their own to share with the conference attendees. It was so rewarding to be exposed to this sort of atmosphere and be granted the opportunity to not only present our own research on economic inequality, but network and learn about the options we have available to us. Thank you CRF!"
