Another academic year has come to a close, and many of us are gearing up for a summer of advancing and continuing scholarly projects, perhaps some teaching, and hopefully some well-deserved rest and relaxation. This year has been a busy one for me, learning my new role as AVPR and working to support our research community in a variety of ways. It has been a pleasure working with many of you and I look forward to our continued collaboration.
Provost Maggitti’s March newsletter highlighted some of the exciting activities and accomplishments happening across the University. Below are two additional and timely updates I would like to point out prior to our transition into the summer:
Villanova Selected to Join Oak Ridge Associated Universities
Villanova was recently named an associate member of Oak Ridge Associated Universities (ORAU), a consortium of more than 120 PhD-granting universities nationwide and in England. ORAU partners with major universities, industry clients, and the government to find innovative scientific and technical solutions to advance national priorities in science, education, security, and health. As an associate ORAU member, Villanova students and faculty will have access to scholarships, research grants, travel grants, science and technology events, high-performance computing and collaborative opportunities. More information is available here.
Fall 2017 Proposal Writing Workshop
The spring 2017 semester-long proposal writing workshop was a great success. Faculty from across three colleges participated, and over the next few weeks and months they will be putting the finishing touches on their proposals and submitting them to federal funding agencies. This workshop will be offered again in the fall semester and applications are due on August 11. General workshop details and application instructions can be found here. A reminder will be sent again in August.
We continue efforts to highlight our faculty and student scholarly successes on our Research Highlights webpage, found here. Please do not hesitate to contact me with your news, awards, and accolades so that we may continue to showcase your achievements.
I wish you all a wonderful summer.
