Associate Director for eLearning Pedagogy

Dr. Andy Cui about his appointment:

Dear Faculty Colleagues,
I am honored and pleased to introduce myself as Associate Director for eLearning Pedagogy at VITAL, and I look forward to working with you on the design of fully online, hybrid, and technology-enhanced face-to-face courses. For example, I can support you in designing your online course and building your collaborative online learning community; I can help prepare your flipped class with various instructional technology-based tools to promote students' active learning. I look forward to teaching Taking Your Course Online, a semester-based, online seminar offered to Villanova faculty.

My past teaching experience helped me learn that the very purpose of education is to help learners develop physically, cognitively and emotionally through learning. I believe learning and instruction can be enhanced through scientific and innovative uses of technology and I perceive the role of a teacher as motivating and involving students in learning, scaffolding student’s learning activities, and assessing students' learning. With research-based, innovative uses of technology, educators can effectively and efficiently help students construct knowledge, practice skills, reflect on their learning, and develop personally and academically.

With a background in English Language and Literature from China, I started my journey in the field of Educational Technology in 2008, and I completed my Master's studies at the University of Southern Mississippi within one year. In 2013, I received my Ph.D. degree in Instructional Design and Technology from Virginia Tech. Before coming to Villanova, I worked as Instructional Designer at Virginia Tech and Montclair State University, and I also served as the Assistant Dean of the School of Foreign Languages at Yantai University. I am very excited to move to Villanova, an academic community dedicated to students’ well-rounded education.

I look forward to working with you to help ease concerns you may have about teaching online, delivering a course in a hybrid format, or enriching your course with technology in support of students’ online learning satisfaction and learning outcomes.
