Taking Your Course Online
TYCO Spring 2022: Designing a Rigorous and Engaging Online Course
Six-week asynchronously online seminar (in Blackboard) with weekly synchronous sessions (via Zoom), February 17 to April 6. Synchronous sessions will be hosted on the following Wednesdays from 5:00 – 6:15 p.m.: February 23, March 9, 16, 23, 30, and April 6 - final presentations: 5:00-7:00 p.m.
This course will be structured in weekly modules beginning on Thursday of each week. Readings and activities within each module will be available from Thursday to the following Wednesday. Participants commit to completing each module and activities within one week; i.e., prior to the start of the next module.
Seminar details:
Designed for faculty who are teaching online for the first time and/or are planning to enhance/revise an existing online course.
You will engage in a rigorous course design process that helps align your student learning goals with online activities, assessment practices, and the corresponding technological tools. You will focus on critical elements such as clear organization, online community, integration of asynchronous and synchronous aspects, and transparent assessment. You will have the opportunity to develop one aspect of your online course considering the students’ learning experiences. Also, the seminar has been designed to provide you with a model for online course development and presentation.
Upon successful completion of the seminar, you will receive a Certificate of Completion to document your commitment to instructional professional development. Note: The seminar focuses on non-vendor supported courses only.
