The Public Safety Department is responsible for providing a safe and secure living and learning environment for the Villanova University community. Officers are on duty 365 days a year and provide immediate response to all types of emergencies on campus. The Department, which consists of approximately 75 employees, provides services in the areas of patrol, investigations, parking enforcement, passenger fleet van management, residence hall protection, building security, crime prevention, and special event security.

There are over 10,000 undergraduate, graduate and law students in the University’s six colleges. These colleges are the setting for an experience that develops both the heart and the mind, and creates the atmosphere where students are called to ignite change.

Villanova University is located in a suburban community on 254 acres just 12 miles west of Philadelphia.

The Department is accredited by the International Association of Campus Law Enforcement Administrators (IACLEA).


  • Must be a Pennsylvania resident
  • Must be at least 21 years of age
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and a good driving record
  • Must be willing to work a variety of shifts and assignments
  • Must have a clean criminal history and be able to pass an extensive background investigation.


  1. Physical Agility Test (See chart). Those candidates selected without PA Act 120 Certification, must meet the minimum physical standards set by MPOETC prior to start of the academy.

  5. Oral Board Interview
  6. Drug Screening
  7. Psychological Exam
  8. Medical Exam
  9. Polygraph Exam
  10. Background Investigation


Completion of the police academy is not required prior to employment, but newly hired officers who have not yet attended the academy will be required to do so. The University will pay academy tuition costs, and the candidate’s salary while they attend.

The police academy is a full-time commitment that lasts 22 weeks and requires ongoing physical fitness activities. Leave time during academy training will be subject to the training schedule.
