Committee Updates (CCC, MSJ, SLAC, ICC, Wildcat Statue Ad-Hoc)

  • Campus Climate: Met with Vice Provost regarding sexual harassment of students by professors on dating and hookup apps. Beginning to work on townhalls.

  • MSJ: NovaNook and Safe Zone certification of SGA officials and the office.

  • SLAC: VAS updates, Brian representing student body on respective committees.

  • ICC: OHERA legislation remains under consideration.

  • Wildcat Statue: N/A

Safe Zone Training Resolution - Senator Eriny Tawfik (CLAS)

  • Introduced resolution requiring the Safe Zone training of all members of SGA in order to raise our profile as allies of all on campus communities and as active listeners.

  • Concerns were raised over the necessity of the certification and the signal it sends about the capability of members to engage on issues without certification.

  • Counter arguments were raised and support for the resolution was expressed.

Speaker’s Updates - Speaker Owen Barnard (CLAS)

  • Nomination and unanimous confirmation of Senator Tim D’Agostino to serve as the inaugural Dean of the Senate.

  • Continued push for active debate and attendance at meetings. Teed up moderated discussion on the growth of SGA in comparison to peer schools and on Villanova’s campus.

     

Moderated Debate - SGA’s Future and Goals

  • Discussion centered around the desire to have a greater public presence on campus and take on issues that were student focused.

  • Oversight of formation of student organizations.

  • Budgetary influence for student involvement and student organizations.

  • Using funds for a greater PR presence on campus and on social media.

  • Growing the respective programming and PR committees/departments
