Great American Smokeout

November 16, 2017

Every year, smokers across the nation take part in the American Cancer Society’s Great American Smokeout® by smoking less or quitting for the day during the third Thursday of November. The event challenges people to stop using tobacco and raises awareness of the many effective ways to quit for good. Want to see Villanova tobacco-free?

Recently, a group of faculty, staff, and students from all areas of the University have been assessing the current state of tobacco use on our campus, and have been discussing the potential interest of making Villanova a 100% tobacco-free campus.

Did you know that an overwhelming percentage of students, faculty, and staff find that people smoking at entrances to buildings is a problem? Did you know that tobacco use remains the leading cause of preventable death in the United States, in addition to second-hand smoke which also claims thousands of lives? To read more about the Surgeon General's report on progress related to tobacco-free campuses, click here.

Before a tobacco-free policy can be adopted by the University, an enormous amount of support is needed. Want to join the growing number of students, faculty and staff who want Villanova University to become a tobacco-free campus? Add your name to the petition below.
