Welcome to the College of Engineering IT Services newsletter where UNIT will display regular Information Technology (IT) updates on services and solutions,  ongoing projects, new UNIT initiatives and relevant information as it pertains to the College of Engineering Faculty and Staff.  Please let us know if you have any comments or ideas for future issues.

Unit Updates

UNIT Updates and Enhancements

· Distance Learning networking infrastructure has been upgraded in CEER and Tolentine.  Network connection ports were upgraded to 10GB.

· Engineering electronic Advising Tools pilot will be tested by Civil Engineering for the Fall semester via Noliji.  These paperless utilities include applications like Course Elsewhere, Course Overload, Course Withdrawal, and Register for Engineering Graduate Course.

· Audio and visual updates in John Barry are in progress.  Approximately 3 to 4 rooms will be upgraded with the latest classroom technology.

· Matlab and other software renewals were updated to the latest version on Egrportal and Vdesktop

· Windows 10 upgrades were performed for several Electrical Engineering labs

· Printer replacements and upgrades were done in CEER 104 and CEER 209

· Email and Spam improvements have been implemented for MS Exchange

·  Wireless upgrades inclusive of new wiring and new access points were completed in John Barry, White Hall, and Chemical Engineering

UNIT Homepage Redesign

UNIT's homepage has a new look and feel providing a clean and consolidated landing page for UNIT information and services. The overall goal is provide the community with a convenient, streamlined experience that is focused on UNIT's solutions and services.  New features include a mobile friendly layout and intergrated social media focus to foster improved communication with the Villanova community.  Click HERE to view the new layout.

Fall Start Up Services

Freshmen and Upperclassmen Move In - UNIT’s TechZone at Vasey will be open for extended hours for freshman and Upperclassmen move-in the weekend of 8/18, as well as having satellite locations on South Campus to assist setting up and connecting technology. UNIT’s Faculty Service Offerings – UNIT’s Faculty Service offerings can be found HERE, which outlines UNIT’s Faculty centric services and 'What UNIT can do for you?’.

TechZone – Students, Faculty and Staff having any technical problems can contact the Villanova TechZone, located in Vasey Hall room 101, Ceer 209, and at the Villanova Law School. Walk-ins are available 9-7 Monday-Thursday, 9-5 Friday, or users can call the Helpdesk at 610 519 7777, email at support@villanova.edu, or chat at unit.villanova.edu

LMS Evalutaiton Vendor Dates

Instructional Technologies is currently evaluating Learning Management Systems and has scheduled for LMS vendors (Blackboard, Desire2Learn, and Instructure) to be on campus to present to Villanova in September.  Please see the September calendar for scheduling HERE.

Office 365 Local Download Now Available

Looking to install Office 2016 locally... it  is now available for local download on your machines for all active Villanova Students and Employees.   Villanova issued machines can install via Software Center.   Personal machines can install via the Office Portal a http://office.villanova.edu/.   More information available HERE.
