Become a Tutor

Thank you for showing an interest in tutoring with the Office of Academic Support for Athletics. Here is some information that you will need to know before applying for this position.

Tutorial Position Minimum Requirements/What we are Looking for:

  • Academic Requirements:
    Students with a 3.0 cumulative GPA or above with Sophomore, Junior, Senior standing. We also hire Graduate students.
  • Interpersonal Skills:
    Ability to work well with others and who are reliable, dependable, organized, punctual, and friendly.
  • Tutors that are dedicated and willing to make the semester long commitment to tutor with the OAS.
  • Tutors who firmly believe in the importance of academic integrity.
  • Tutors who will uphold the privacy of the student-athletes and maintain confidentiality.
  • The tutors hired by the OAS need to show teaching ability and be a good role model for the student-athlete they are tutoring

Our Tutors:

  • On average, we employ 35-45 qualified tutors that assist our student-athletes in a variety of coursework.
  • Hours vary, and are based on the needs of the student-athletes and the subject that a tutor can tutor.
  • Tutor appointments are scheduled during a mutually convenient time for the tutor and the student-athlete to meet. Tutoring sessions usually take place in the Academic Resource Center (ARC), which is located in the Press Box of the Football Stadium and has the following set hours: Sunday: 5-10 pm, Mon-Thurs. 4-10 pm.
  • Pay varies and is based on the courses tutored, but on average undergraduate student tutors earn between $7.40 and $9.25 per hour. Graduate students earn $10.50 an hour.

For many of our student-athletes, our tutorial assistance program is a fundamental component of achieving their goal of graduation, with your dedication and professionalism as a tutor, combined with the additional services offered.
