Pre-Departure Orientation

At the end of each semester, the OIS staff holds a MANDATORY pre-departure orientation meeting for all students scheduled to study abroad in the following semester or summer. This meeting is an important way for our office to convey information that will be relevant to your pre-departure planning and your time abroad. It is also a chance for you to ask any pressing questions and meet with past participants from your study abroad program. In particular, we emphasis three major themes: general logistics, health & safety advice, and culture shock preparedness. Each section below contains important links and resources that are referenced in our face-to-face pre-departure meeting.

Logistics

The logistics section will answer all your questions about course registration, financial responsibilities, required paperwork, and what to pack.

Health & Safety

The Health & Safety section addresses important steps that everyone should take to stay safe overseas.

Introduction to Culture & Culture Shock

Even the most prepared traveler experiences some type of culture shock. Use this information to take the shock out of studying abroad.
