The Office of Research and Sponsored Projects (ORSP) is the
unit of Academic Affairs charged with administering research-related grant and contract
activity so as to assure that the ethical and legal interests of the University
and the sponsors are understood, appropriately funded, and completed.
ORSP also works with the Vice President of Academic Affairs, the Deans,
department chairs and individual faculty members to find sources of research
funding which will
enable committed faculty to pursue scholarly interests which require resources that
cannot be personally or institutionally provided. As with all research at Villanova
University, acquiring and stringently administering sponsored research awards helps
fulfill two of the universal missions of higher education which are to create new
knowledge and to disseminate new and existing knowledge to students, the surrounding
community and society at large.
To accomplish our stated mission ORSP provides the services and fulfills the
functions stated below:
- ORSP is to assist Villanova University faculty members in finding support
for research programs which the resources of the University alone cannot fully
fund;
- ORSP is to assist faculty in the establishment of costs for any proposed
projects that will meet project requirements and be consistent with acceptable
University, sponsor and governmental guidelines and requirements.
- ORSP is responsible for ensuring that any grant or contract award received
in support of a scholarly project will be established and administered in accordance
with the Terms and Conditions of the accepted award and with all applicable
laws and regulations. The University’s practices will reflect adherence to the
requirements of OMB Circulars A-133 and A-21.
- ORSP will monitor and coordinate the closeout of all terminated awards and
monitor all closeout procedures to see that appropriate technical, administrative
and financial reports have been filed.
The Villanova University Office of Research and Sponsored Projects exists to
assist the faculty and to act as their representative and advocate to prospective
funding sources. Do not hesitate to call on us.
