Niteline Spring and Summer 2008, From the Director
This calendar year, 2008, Villanova’s Division of Part-Time
Studies will celebrate 90 years of educational support to adult students in the
Philadelphia area. With a long history of evening, weekend and summer classes,
both on campus and in off campus locations, Villanova has provided credit and
non-credit courses, certificates and degree programs to working adults in the
fields of nursing, engineering, business, education and the liberal arts and
sciences. Throughout this newsletter and in publications available in our
office you will find information on the 90th anniversary
celebrations. Inside the main entrance to the Falvey library is a display of
some of the history of part-time studies in photographic form.
Our fastforward classes are again proving popular with our
part-time students this semester. Fifteen courses were scheduled for spring ’08
in various academic areas and subjects. We will continue to work with the
academic departments to seek new courses in the fastforward format. While the
fastforward courses offer the opportunity to complete a course in seven instead
of the usual 14 weeks, students must be aware also that this means completing
the workload of a full semester course in seven weeks. It is essential that you
do not overload your schedule and be unable to keep up with the course work
required.
Looking ahead to summer sessions 2008, there will be over
46 undergraduate courses that may be completed on line in the summer session.
For Leadership majors, two of your required courses are offered only in the
summer term. These classes are LDR 2040, Ethics and Leadership and PSY 2700,
Industrial/Organizational Psychology. The summer on line courses are very
popular with our traditional age students, so I recommend that you plan ahead if
taking summer classes and register early. Summer registration starts on March
11, 2008--please see your advisor for your summer registration pin and register
before the distance learning classes you need are filled.
