Bachelor of Science in Education

There are several options for people interested in the secondary teacher education program.

  • If you do not already have a bachelor's degree, you can earn your Bachelor of Science in Education.
  • If you already have your bachelor's degree, then you can focus only on those courses necessary for Teacher Certification .
  • And if you already are a certified teacher, but want to change your area of specialization, we can help you as well.

The Department of Education and Human Services secondary teacher education program develops teachers able to meet the demands of teaching in a variety of school environments, public and private, urban and suburban. Provisions for professional competencies and teacher certification include a thorough grounding in the liberal arts, a substantial concentration in an area of specialization and a study of the foundations, principles and methods of education.

To earn a Bachelor of Science in Secondary Education, you are required to earn a total of 37 credit hours in Education courses. These 37 credit hours include a Senior Seminar and a 12 credit Student Teaching experience. It is important to note that the student teaching experience is:

  • Open only to students of the senior year who have completed all the subject matter courses in the field of specialization.
  • Performed during regular school hours during the day and therefore can not be achieved in the evenings.
