Cyril E. Daly ’39 CE

In Memoriam:
Cyril E. Daly ’39 CE of Cherry Hill, a retired civil engineer whose passion was performing with Mummers string bands for more than half a century, died Wednesday, Dec. 13. He was 101.

Fall 2017



Construction management firm Hill International appointed Michael V. Griffin ’74 CE, ’79 MSCE, PE, Regional President, Americas. Griffin, formerly the company’s Senior Vice President & Regional Manager for the U.S. Mid-Atlantic Region, started his career with Hill International in 1981 and most recently led Hill’s project consulting services for the Mid-Atlantic Region of the United States.



John L. Buckley ’83 ChE

John L. Buckley ’83 ChE was named president and chief executive officer of Wilbur-Ellis Companies, leading international marketers and distributors of agricultural products, animal feed and specialty chemicals and ingredients. Buckley previously served as chief executive of the U.S. subsidiary of France's Air Liquide. 

Jonathan Meisel ’84 ME

Jonathan Meisel ’84 ME has been named senior vice president for CBRE’s Central New Jersey region. He has more than 30 years of experience in the commercial real estate industry, having focused on data centers, collocation, corporate real estate and multi-market portfolio management.



Darlene Sullivan ’90 EE

Darlene Sullivan ’90 EE has been selected as director, Undersea Warfare Electromagnetic Maneuver Systems at the Naval Undersea Warfare Center Division Newport, Rhode Island. 

Steve Alessi ’91 ME

Steve Alessi ’91 ME has been promoted to president of NJ Advance Media. He was previously the company’s Chief Revenue Officer. 

Tom Himmel ’91 ChE

Tom Himmel ’91 ChE has been named CEO of the RiteScreen Company. His 26-year career in the building products and chemical manufacturing sectors includes most recently serving as Vice President Americas and Engineered Foams for Armacell LLC. 

Christopher Hannum ’95 MSWREE, PE

Army veteran Christopher Hannum ’95 MSWREE, PE, was named a principal on Entech's executive leadership team. He joined the company in 2012, and oversees engineering for water and wastewater projects, helping clients make more informed decisions as they invest in their infrastructure systems. 

Ronald Jakominich ’95 CE, PE

Professional services firm Dewberry promoted Ronald Jakominich ’95 CE, PE, to associate vice president in their Fairfax, VA headquarters. Jakominich has more than 21 years of experience as a civil and transportation engineer, and is a member of the Design-Build Institute of America.

Steve Christini ’95 ME

Steve Christini ’95 ME is the president and CEO of Christini Technologies, Inc., a Philadelphia-based company which manufactures a range of All-Wheel Drive (AWD) bicycles and motorcycles. In October, he donated one of his new electric AWD Fat Bikes to Villanova’s Department of Public Safety.

Thomas Hebner ’96 EE has been appointed the new worldwide leader of CIG (Cognitive Innovation Group) within Nuance Communications, Inc.

Dr. Latha Nataraj ’97 MSCpE

Dr. Latha Nataraj ’97 MSCpE, an engineering materials researcher with the U.S. Army Research Laboratory's Vehicle Technology Directorate, is also an accomplished artist and musician who donated her works in support of hurricane relief. You can read her story here


Deepthi Kalyanam '06 MSWREE, PE

Deepthi Kalyanam '06 MSWREE, PE received the PA Water Environment Association's award for in honor of her "extraordinary personal service to the association, while working to promote wastewater collection system understanding, operation and maintenance, training and continuing education."


Luis Gaitan ’10 CE

Luis Gaitan ’10 CE is changing lives as a mentor and running coach in Camden. His story appeared in the Philadelphia Inquirer: “'Inspiring': Why these Camden youths trained for the Philly Half Marathon.” 

Paula Torres ’13 ME, ’14 MSME

Paula Torres ’13 ME, ’14 MSME was awarded a Continuous Improvement ‘Green Belt’ at Air Products for “Reduction of Helium Inventory Adjustments.” She identified the problem, listed root causes, and developed procedures that created solutions resulting in significant savings to the company.
