CIVIL AND ENVIRONMENTAL ENGINEERING

• Discuss your intent to study abroad as soon as possible with your academic advisor because most programs occur in your second year of study.
• Contact the CEE study abroad advisor, Dr. Stephanie Walkup, who will help you make informed decisions specifically related to your own curriculum advancement. Have your unofficial transcript available during any meeting.

Specific things to consider as you plan for your study abroad experience

• Students with AP or transfer credits may have other opportunities for study abroad programs that are not listed on this site or may be able to take courses related to a minor or lighten course loading while abroad.
• Many third-year CEE courses have embedded laboratories that are not commonly found in international programs so students are encouraged to study abroad in their second year.
• Many upper-level CEE courses have course prerequisites, so it is not always possible to take courses out of sequence.

Students are encouraged to study abroad during a semester that fits them best academically. In the past, this has typically been the Spring semester of sophomore year, however, we encourage you to talk to Prof. Walkup and your academic advisor to make sure this timeframe fits your needs. If you wish to go abroad in the Summer, please consult with your academic advisor about the best coursework for you to take.

Study abroad opportunities are not limited to formal instruction. Consider taking advantage of the unique research, internship, and fieldwork opportunities available in different regions of the world. This not only expands your personal and professional network but gives you critical intercultural skills as well as direct hands-on experience.

The following Partner Programs and Universities have been identified as offering curriculum matches for Civil and Environmental Engineers. Each option lists the classes that students typically take while abroad, along with the semester when most students go abroad to that location.

There are many scholarships available for students through Villanova University, our partner programs and other external sources, like the US Government. The OEA can help students with the scholarship search and application process. If a scholarship is found outside of the OEA scholarship page, students should have it reviewed by the OEA to determine if it is a viable option.
