A PAPAL CONNECTION
On Thursday, May 8, 2025, Cardinal Robert Francis Prevost, OSA, '77 CLAS, was elected the 267th pope. Now known to the world as Pope Leo XIV, he is not only the first pope from the United States, but also a fellow Augustinian and Villanovan. Across the University, our institutes, centers, programs and scholars are contributing meaningfully to conversations about Pope Leo XIV, the papacy and the future of the Catholic Church.

Pope Leo XIV to Receive 38th Annual Liberty Medal from the National Constitution Center
On July 3, Pope Leo XIV will receive the 38th Annual Liberty Medal from the National Constitution Center. Villanova University, the Holy Father's alma mater, joins the National Constitution Center in recognizing his commitment to religious liberty, human dignity and the common good.
Originally made to replace the now-iconic Liberty Bell, its “Sister Bell” rang alongside it at Independence Hall in July 1776. For nearly 200 years, it has been inextricably linked to Villanova University and the Order of St. Augustine.
12 Villanovans Awarded Prestigious Fulbright US Student Grants for 2026-27
12 Villanova University students and alumni have been selected to receive Fulbright U.S. Student Grants for the 2026–27 academic year. In addition, 9 Villanovans were named alternates and 42 were recognized as semifinalists. Two students also earned the highly competitive Fulbright English Teaching Flagship Award to Taiwan, highlighting Villanova’s global reach and commitment to fostering cross-cultural understanding through education.

Villanova University’s new 112-acre Cabrini Campus will open in August 2026, providing the opportunity for the University to enhance its programs and commitment to advancing Catholic higher education.
