COE Research Initiatives
The NSF Major Research Instrumentation (MRI) program is a program with a maximum number of three applications per institution. Villanova University can be either the lead or a partner institution. The College of Engineering will be accepting and selecting applications for internal submission to the Provost’s Office. The College will then nominate projects to the Vice Provost for Research. This process will provide PIs with substantial time to prepare more in-depth and competitive proposals.
This award is intended to support tenure-track faculty members at the start of their career to facilitate relationships with mentor(s) or collaborators at other institutions who can help to accelerate faculty research development. The award will provide up to $7,500 for tenure-track faculty members to work with mentors or develop networks, nationally or internationally, to support long-term research collaborations.
A mini-grant program designed to foster engineering education research within the College. This mini grant is intended to support a single PI with a nine-month COE faculty appointment. Call goes out in the spring to start in summer.

The Villanova University College of Engineering Dean’s Fellowship was established to support outstanding PhD students entering their first year at Vilanova. The fellowship will provide selected incoming PhD students with stipend and tuition (12 credits) support. During their first year, the student will rotate and work with the 3-4 faculty who team up. By the end of the fellowship, the student is expected to be funded as a graduate assistant.
This new program offered by the College of Engineering is meant to foster blue-sky research in an interdisciplinary fashion by providing financial support for a postdoctoral researcher for one year.
