Our major and minor programs in Education and Counseling foster essential knowledge, skills and dispositions that embolden students to serve the diverse and individualized needs of their students, schools and communities.

In Education, students may select from the following programs:

Major in Education
- Students select either the elementary PK-4 or secondary 7-12 certification program. These programs are approved by the Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE) to prepare candidates for the Instructional Level 1 Certification required to teach in Pennsylvania’s public schools.
- PK -4 Elementary Education
- 7-12 Secondary Education

Villanova University's Secondary Teacher Education program is approved by the Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE) to prepare candidates for the 7-12 Instructional Level I Certification required to teach in Pennsylvania's public schools.

WHO WE ARE

MADELINE OCHABILLO ’21 CLAS

Madeline Ochabillo ’21 CLAS is working toward her certification as a Social Studies teacher. Madeline is an active member of the Villanova community. In addition to her participation in numerous leadership activities, Madeline serves as the student representative on our departmental Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee. As student representative, Madeline works with the Committee to brainstorm and implement initiatives that increase diversity and inclusion efforts on Villanova’s campus.

ISABEL FORWARD ’20 CLAS

During her time at Villanova, Isabel Forward ’20 CLAS made an indelible mark on the campus community. A graduate of the Undergraduate Teacher Education Program, Forward majored in English and Education and minored in Spanish, Latin American Studies, Peace and Justice. Her service also extends beyond the University setting. During winter break of 2019, Forward worked with immigrants who had been released from detention centers at the Mexico/US border. She recounts her experience in an article that published by Slate. In Spring 2020, Forward was awarded the prestigious Fulbright award, enabling her to serve as an English Teaching Assistant in Colombia. Forward penned a beautiful farewell address to the class of 2020, which was published in the Villanovan.

MOLLY QUINN ’15 CLAS

A graduate of the undergraduate teacher education program, Molly Quinn ’15 CLAS now works as a Physics teacher at Ridley High School. In a Ridley Green Raider feature, faculty and students note that Quinn’s “enthusiasm and willingness to work with students before and after school have helped all of her students understand the content they have worked on.” Through her exemplary pedagogical skills and ability to cultivate classroom community, Quinn demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and dispositions of a model educator. We are thrilled that she has returned to Villanova to pursue an Education Master’s degree in Teacher Leadership!
