MINOR IN JEWISH STUDIES

The Jewish Studies minor is open to all undergraduate students at Villanova University and offers an interdisciplinary perspective that strengthens any major.

The Jewish Studies minor provides undergraduate students with opportunities to engage in the study of Jewish history, thought and culture through courses offered by the Departments of Communication, English, History, Philosophy and Theology and Religious Studies.

EXPLORE THE MINOR

Students will develop knowledge and understanding of subjects including:
  1. Jewish texts, thought, culture and history in antiquity and subsequent diasporic contexts
  2. The complexity and diversity of Jewish identity as comprising varying elements of religious practice and thought, ethnicity, ways of life and the concept of being “a people”
  3. The core connections as well as conflicting perspectives among Jews, Christians and Muslims over the course of history
  4. The nature, origins and perpetuation of antisemitism
  5. The history and experience of Jews in the United States
  6. The history and multiple meanings of Zionism, as well as debates surrounding it
  7.  Israel, Palestine and the modern Middle East
