ABOUT THE CENTER
Our Mission
The Villanova One Sky Center for Astrophysics is dedicated to elevating Villanova University's impact in astrophysics through groundbreaking research, innovative collaborations and a commitment to excellence. By empowering and inspiring the next generation, we aim to create leaders who are prepared to tackle the challenges of the future with curiosity, integrity and purpose. Together, we explore the universe under one sky, united by our shared pursuit of discovery and understanding.
Why Astrophysics?
Astrophysics bridges ancient philosophical questions with cutting-edge scientific methods. It captures the imagination, sparks curiosity, and prepares students for dynamic careers in fields such as science, engineering, medicine, and business. By emphasizing inclusivity, the One Sky Center ensures that the field continues to inspire and benefit all.
Our Objectives
- Enhance Villanova’s impact in the field of Astrophysics
- Engage the public through flagship events that share the wonder of astrophysics
- Build collaborations with external institutions to foster inclusivity in astrophysics
- Provide inclusive research and leadership opportunities to Villanova and the broader community
Our Partner Institutions
We are proud to partner with several institutions in the local area to provide opportunities to students, especially those from under-represented backgrounds, as they study astrophysics. These include Wilmington University, Kutztown University, and Brookdale Community College, and we are always looking for more groups, universities, and organizations to work with to achieve a future where we can all study the sky together. We have also worked closely with scientists and organizations from Space Telescope Science Institute (STScI), NASA's Mikulski Archive for Space Telescopes (MAST), the TESS Mission, and NASA's High Energy Astrophysics Science Archive Research Center (HEASARC). to organize and develop workshops, which you can read more about at our Signature Events page. Last, but not least, we are also a member of the LSST (Legacy Survey of Space and Time) Discovery Alliance, providing research support and resources for both students and faculty as the Vera Rubin Observatory begins its decade-long survey of the southern sky.
