FIRST-YEAR STUDENT MOVE-IN DAY
Villanova is excited to welcome you to first-year student Move-In Day on Wednesday, August 19! Please visit this website frequently for information and tips to make your day a success.
PLAN YOUR ROUTE TO YOUR RESIDENCE HALL
Our interactive map will show you where to go once you arrive on campus. Use the Directions feature for a turn-by-turn route to your new home!
Here are some steps you can take today to make Move-In Day a breeze!
- Learn more about your residence hall and what to bring (and what not to bring) to campus!
- Label your belongings with your name, residence hall and room number.
- If possible, unbox your items at home to save space in your vehicle and reduce waste on campus.
- Look for your Move-In and Orientation Guide in your home mailbox in late July. This mailing will contain a hangtag that you'll need to display from your rearview mirror as you arrive on campus.
You will receive your VU box number and campus mailing address in late July and can use these to ship your room items to campus. We will begin accepting packages that have your VU Box number and official campus address starting Friday, Aug. 7 for pickup near your residence hall on Move-In Day.
- Proceed to your assigned staging area and/or residence hall per the instructions you will receive in your Move-In and Orientation Guide in July.
- Display the hangtag you will receive with your Move-In and Orientation Guide from your rearview mirror. This will help our staff members direct you to the appropriate staging area.
- Once you have entered campus, please wait to be directed to a drop-off area near your residence hall.
- Once you have arrived at your residence hall, please unload your belongings onto the sidewalk (our Orientation Staff Members will help you!). After you've unloaded, one person should drive your vehicle to a designated parking area, while the other members of your party continue the move-in process.
- Check in and pick up your Wildcard at the entrance to your residence hall. Your Wildcard will give you access to your room, and you may begin moving in.
- After you have unloaded your vehicle at your residence hall, one member of your party will be directed to move the vehicle to a designated parking garage. The driver will receive directions to the garage as they depart the residence hall area.
- After departing the area, you will not be able to bring your vehicle back to the residence hall area until after 5 p.m. on Move-In Day.
- U-Hauls and other rental trucks will not fit into University garages. Please do not use these vehicles for move-in purposes.
- If you depart campus during Move-In Day, you may return to the parking lot you were directed to after dropping off your items. You will not be permitted to return to areas in front of residence halls to drop off additional items.
Please keep these guidelines in mind as you move in your room.
Bed:
- Please do not position your bed, furniture or large items in a way that will block the HVAC system.
- Bed heights are adjustable; you will receive information on how to contact Facilities to have your bed adjusted if desired.
Walls:
- Do not drill holes into walls.
- Do not adhere LED lights directly to the walls.
- Do not hang items from the ceiling.
Closets:
- Closets do NOT have doors. Students often bring tension rods with curtains or shower curtains to block the view of the closet from the rest of the room.
Windows:
- Please keep windows and windowsills free from decorations, decals, banners, flags or any other type of display.
Furniture:
- Do not remove University furniture from your room.
Doors:
- Items (including dry-erase boards) may not be hung on or affixed to doors.
- Do not tamper with door locks.
Trash:
- Please take all trash to the appropriate receptacles as you unpack.
- Please do not leave trash in the hallways.
- Grab a free lunch on Move-In Day! Check your Orientation App for details about complimentary dining at one of our campus locations:
- Refreshment stations with free beverages and snacks will be located at Drosdick Hall, the Court at Donahue Hall, Second Storey Market in St. Mary's Hall and the Connelly Center.
- Stop by one of our two convenient retail locations—the University Shop Pop-Up Tent on Sheehan Beach or the University Shop in St. Mary's Hall—to browse their selection of room essentials, including extension cords, desk accessories, shower supplies, bedding and more, and pick up some Villanova swag for the whole family! Check your Orientation App for Move-In Day hours and locations.
- Or shop online! Browse the University Shop website for apparel, tech, room decor, school supplies and more!
- Shuttles will run from locations around campus to the University Shop on Move-In Day and Opening Day. Check your Orientation App for pick-up locations.
- For residents of Austin, Alumni, Delurey, Fedigan, O'Dwyer and Simpson halls, shuttle service will be provided between the S-4 (Law School) Garage and Fedigan Gate from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. on Move-In Day.
Students who used the Textbook Access Program to order their classroom materials may pick up in Garey Hall, Room 10A.
- During Move-In Day, you’ll see Villanova’s Sustainability EcoReps in high-visibility vests stationed throughout residence halls and near dumpsters. We're here to help students and families sort their waste correctly—especially cardboard—and make Move-In more sustainable for everyone. Let’s start the semester off green!
- Sustainability Tip: Unpack Before You Pack! Before heading to campus, take a few minutes to open up those online orders. Ditch the shipping boxes, plastic wrap and excess packaging at home, and recycle them. Then repack only what you need in reusable bins or bags—it saves space, cuts down on waste, and helps us keep Move-In Day clean and green.
- Stop by the Freestore Pop-Up Shop and snag free gently used dorm furniture, accessories, kitchenware and more! All items were collected during our Spring Move-Out drive and are looking for new homes. It’s a great way to furnish your space sustainably and save money. First come, first serve—once it’s gone, it’s gone!
Move-In Day will be held rain or shine! Beginning in late July, you can download our Orientation App and enable push notifications to receive weather alerts. Please note that the weather at Villanova in August can be very hot! Wear light, comfortable clothes and comfortable shoes.
