Two Villanovans, the Rev. Joseph L. Farrell, OSA, STL, STD, ’85 VSB, ’19 MS and the Rev. Kevin DePrinzio, OSA, PhD, have been elevated to leadership roles for the Augustinian Order.

Father Farrell, a longtime Theology professor and leader in Mission and Ministry at Villanova, will serve a six-year term as Prior General of the Order, while Father Kevin, who had served as Villanova’s vice president for Mission and Ministry since 2020, was appointed assistant general for English-speaking provinces.

As Prior General, Father Farrell leads more than 2,400 Augustinian friars located in nearly 50 countries around the world.

“Father Farrell has served the Order in so many ways for so many years, and now he leads us all as the Augustinian Good Shepherd, helping us to stay one in mind and heart intent upon God,” says the Rev. Robert P. Hagan, OSA, JD, ’87 CLAS, Prior Provincial for the Province of St. Thomas of Villanova.

As an assistant general, Father Kevin will work closely with Father Farrell and other members of the Order’s General Council to ensure that the mission of the Augustinians is carried out faithfully in provinces spanning the globe.

“Father Kevin has devoted his life to our Augustinian Catholic mission, and he is perfectly suited for this new role,” says University President the Rev. Peter M. Donohue, OSA, PhD, ’75 CLAS.
