The process for securing an internship should prepare you for the process you
will go through to land your first job after graduation . . . and most other
jobs that you will have in your career!
Follow the approach suggested by the
Career Services Office
here.
Step 1:
Set up an appointment with the College Internship Office, St. Augustine
Center for the Liberal Arts Room 415, 610-519-4232
- Discuss your interests and objectives for the internship.
- Determine which type of internship you are looking for and make sure you
meet all the criteria.
Step 2:
Meet with a Career Counselor, Career Services Office, Corr Hall Room 106
- Prepare your
resume and have it reviewed by a Career Counselor.
- Set up your account on GoNOVA, the web-based recruiting system used by
CSO, including a complete profile and uploaded resume.
- File the CLA&S
internship application form, along with a copy of your resume and
essay.
Step 3:
Research opportunities and apply directly to those in which you are
interested
- CSO opportunities listed on GoNOVA
- CLA&S
Internship database (Note: You will be prompted for your VU username
& password)
- The internship links page on this site.
- Develop
cover letters to submit with your resume to interesting internship
opportunities.
Step 4:
Preparing for the Interview
Step 5:
Deciding on which Internship to accept
- Before final acceptance of an internship, student must provide the
Internship office with a job description for her specific internship on the
sponsor’s letterhead (if available on the company’s web site, the URL will
suffice). The site supervisor must be identified along with direct contact
information.
- Student must visit the Internship Office for final review of all
academic requirements and deadlines for submission.
- The Internship Office will handle registration for the appropriate
internship course
- Student should send out
acceptance and decline letters as appropriate.
