A PAPAL CONNECTION
On Thursday, May 8, 2025, Cardinal Robert Francis Prevost, OSA, '77 CLAS, was elected the 267th pope. Now known to the world as Pope Leo XIV, he is not only the first pope from the United States, but also a fellow Augustinian and Villanovan. Across the University, our institutes, centers, programs and scholars are contributing meaningfully to conversations about Pope Leo XIV, the papacy and the future of the Catholic Church.

Villanova University Awards Mendel Medal to Renowned Molecular Geneticist Huda Zoghbi, MD
Villanova University has named Huda Zoghbi, MD, distinguished service professor at Baylor College of Medicine, investigator with the Howard Hughes Medical Institute and founding director of the Jan and Dan Duncan Neurological Research Institute at Texas Children’s Hospital, as the 2026 recipient of the Mendel Medal.
Villanova Memorializes 9/11 Victims Through Symbolic Stained Glass and Service to Students
As the University commemorates the 25th anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks, the memories of those who lost their lives endure throughout campus. Each year on the anniversary of 9/11, Villanova honors the lives of those individuals who perished—and all of those impacted—with meaningful events, prayer and memorials thoughtfully organized by the University community.
Villanova University Celebrates 2026 St. Thomas of Villanova Day of Service
On Saturday, September 19, more than 4,000 Villanova University students, faculty, staff, alumni and friends will take part in the 2026 St. Thomas of Villanova Day of Service. Named for the University’s patron saint, a 16th-century Augustinian bishop who tended to the poor and marginalized, the yearly event is one of the Delaware Valley’s largest single-day service initiatives.
A new chapter in Villanova University’s history has begun with the opening of the Villanova University Cabrini Campus. This addition of a second campus marks a transformative expansion of the 184-year-old institution, further strengthening the University’s ability to advance its Augustinian Catholic mission and commitment to Catholic higher education.
