FINANCIAL HEALTH AND WELL-BEING

Being financially well means someone can meet their current need and ongoing financial obligations, feel secure in their financial future and make choices that allow them to enjoy life. Research shows that financial stressors can significantly impact health and well-being, particularly for college students. If you have or are currently experiencing financial stress, you’re not alone – there are resources and services available to help at Villanova.

The Affordable Materials Project is a University-wide collaboration between the University Bookstore; Falvey Library; Center for Access, Success and Achievement (CASA); and the Office of the Provost, all working together to improve access to high quality, affordable course materials.

All students who register to stay on campus during breaks will receive outreach from the University. These students will be given access to a residence hall with a communal kitchen, pots/pans, etc, and can also rent a micro-fridge if they do not already have one. Also, the University can supply gift cards in small denominations to Giant grocery store to help students get food when the dining halls are closed, and provide transportation to Giant during break periods. Students must register with Residence Life and stay for the entire duration of the break to receive information about receiving gift cards.

The Center for Access, Success and Achievement maintains a small library of books and textbooks accessible for CASA students to checkout for the semester. In return for borrowing from the lending library, students are asked to donate purchased textbooks back to the library for future students to use.

Private personal finance coaching is available to both undergraduate and graduate students. Schedule a one-on-one session with trained Villanova staff to explore topics such as creating a spending plan, understanding your credit score, and more!

Villanova students are eligible to apply for funding to help them engage in critical professional and personal development experiences such as unpaid and low-paying summer internships, research experiences, conferences, academic trips, study abroad and more. A list of funds for student experiences with links to each site’s materials and applications are included on this site.

Hosted by the Division of Student Life, The Sunshine Fund is available to provide financial support to help individual students with demonstrated need connect with co-curricular learning experiences that will further their sense of belonging and connection to the Villanova community.

Meet with a trained peer mentor to help you unpack your money worries and make plans for your future. Peer Money Mentors have completed rigorous training and formal certification through fincert.org to become a Certified Financial Peer Mentor (CFPM).

This student-run group chat is a Student Sustainability Committee initiative to help prevent food insecurity on campus by minimizing food waste.

Students, faculty, staff and alumni can access iGrad’s award-winning personal finance platform at no cost. iGrad will walk you through the steps to pay for college, manage your money, repay student loans and prepare for life after college, at any stage.

A student who becomes pregnant may elect to stay at Villanova during pregnancy if they wish. The University community will offer full support and accommodate a student’s needs and concerns regarding classes, housing and personal counseling during and after the pregnancy.

Each semester, Villanova’s Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week collects meal donations from current students who have an active meal plan, which is then moved to the Wildcat Meal Share program. Students who participate in the Wildcat Meal Share will receive a small number of meals to be used throughout the semester in our all-you-care-to-eat dining facilities on campus.

All students are welcome to try on clothing in the dressing room and take the items home free of charge. To shop the Wildcat Wardrobe, students can schedule an appointment on Handshake. Students enrolled in the College of Professional Studies are asked to schedule an appointment by emailing careers.info@villanova.edu.
