Conflict of Interest in Research (COI)

Villanova University is committed to conducting research without bias and with the highest ethical and scientific standards. To support this commitment, the University must maintain policies and processes that facilitate compliance with federal regulations and sponsor policy governing financial and other conflicts of interest or commitment in research.  

The University must identify and manage situations in which financial or other personal interests could bias or compromise, or have the appearance of biasing or compromising, objectivity or judgment relative to research.

The Office of Research Protections, in collaboration with the Conflict of Interest in Research Committee (COI Committee), is responsible for the review of conflicts of interest disclosures by researchers and for providing direction, support and guidance on management plans to resolve or mitigate research-related conflict of interest cases.
