Villanova's Art Gallery houses innovative exhibitions, timeless collections pieces and unique outreach programs for the greater community. The gallery cultivates a deep sense of artistic expression by displaying works from various talented artists as well as students, faculty and staff from Villanova's esteemed art department. We strive to cultivate spaces for learning, reflection and cultural connection in support of our Augustinian Catholic heritage.

Hearts of the Harvest: Seeds, Stories, and Sovereignty

“Hearts of the Harvest: Seeds, Stories, and Sovereignty” brings together Shinnecock artists and Indigenous Ma’s House alumni whose work grows from land, memory, community, and futurity. The exhibition takes inspiration, in part, from the Villanova University student documentary Seeds We Bury, which connects the Ati Tribe of Boracay in the Philippines and the Shinnecock Nation through generational storytelling, tracing how Indigenous island communities separated by oceans continue to protect land, people, and culture.
Harvest is both literal and metaphorical. It refers to planting, tending, gathering, and seasonal relationships with the earth, but also to the knowledge, stories, and responsibilities carried across generations. The artists in this exhibition do not treat Indigenous identity as a subject fixed in the past. Through photography, painting, mixed media, leatherwork, film, installation, and performance, they consider waterways, gardens, migration, family histories, survivance, loss, and return. Together, these works ask what it means to belong to land, to care for inherited stories, and to imagine futures rooted in Indigenous sovereignty and community care.
