Villanova University Celebrates Hispanic and Latin Heritage Month!
This national observation began in 1968 as Hispanic Heritage Week under President Lyndon B. Johnson. It was later expanded to a month-long celebration to honor the rich history, cultural diversity, and contributions of Hispanic and Latin communities. The timing also aligns with the independence days of several Hispanic and Latin American countries, including Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, and Nicaragua (September 15), Mexico (September 16), and Chile (September 18).
This year’s national theme, Unidos, Somos Más, translates to “Together, We Are More.” It highlights the power of unity, resilience, and collective strength within Hispanic and Latin communities. At Villanova, our theme, In Unitas, Somos Más, echoes this sentiment: “In Unitas, We Are More.”
We proudly acknowledge and celebrate the invaluable contributions of Hispanic and Latin individuals to our community and beyond. Join us in honoring their legacy by participating in events across campus, engaging in meaningful dialogue, and deepen your understanding of the vibrant cultures that shape Villanova and our world.
